Spain RFEF launches virtual stadium experience Image: RFEF

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (Spain) endeavor to bring football closer to fans continues and they continue to work on projects in this regard. After all, fans are the raison d’être of the game of football.

‘The RFEF’ stated that in this context, the federative entity and Book Your Stadium, a startup of Spanish origin, have joined hands in a deal struck recently that will allow, among many other initiatives, to carry out the development of virtual signatures and the now famous ‘Selfie Stadium’, action that will give fans the chance to cheer on their team from the video scoreboards.

As part of the deal struck, 20 fans will be provided with a virtual stadium experience during the Copa del Rey final to be played between the Spanish professional football club Athletic Bilbao and the Spanish professional sports club Real Sociedad on April 3rd, 2021.

The 2021 Copa del Rey Final is a football match that will decide the winner of the 2020-21 Copa del Rey, the 119th edition of Spain’s primary football cup (including two seasons where two rival editions were played).

Insurance firm Pelayo, a sponsor of the RFEF, will support the initiative, which will look to recreate the atmosphere of a stadium in a novel manner.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation is the governing body of football in Spain. It is based in La Ciudad del Fútbol of Las Rozas, a municipality near Madrid. It was founded on October 14th, 1909 as Federación Española de Clubs de Football, and was officially founded on September 29th, 1913.

‘The RFEF’ quoted Rubén Rivera, Marketing Director, RFEF, as stating, “Bringing the follower closer to the national teams has always been a priority for the RFEF and its partners, but even more so in this time of the pandemic. Collaboration with ‘Book Your Stadium’ will allow us to overcome the barriers imposed by COVID-19, but in the long term it will also allow us to create innovative physical, digital and hybrid proposals to offer our fans unique and unforgettable experiences.”

The project will be carried out through the ‘Watch Game Together’ initiative, an experience designed by Book Your Stadium. The experience will include pre-match games and contests.

Once the match is kicked off, supporters will be able to watch the action on television while also accessing statistics and other ‘surprises’. The virtual room will be joined in halftime by a Spanish football giant for a live interview, and fans will be given an exclusive keepsake once the match gets over.

Remarked Emma Ruiz de Azcárate, Marketing Director, Pelayo, “Being close to people is part of Pelayo’s DNA. Commitment and closeness are key concepts of our brand and we believe that this project is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate this closeness with the fans and that we are committed to giving them the opportunity to relive the football festival after a very difficult year.”

The RFEF confirmed earlier this month that there will be no in-person attendance for the April 3rd matchup as coronavirus continues to thump the world.

The fixture will serve as the final of the 2019-20 seasons and it had been postponed in the hope that fans would be able to grace the same, but this will not be the case as virus numbers are still very high all over the globe.

The spectacle will take place at the 60,000-seat Estadio de la Cartuja in Seville, Spain.

In January this year, Book Your Stadium teamed up with augmented reality (AR) company ImagineAR to deliver unique AR experiences featuring La Liga (men’s top professional football division of the Spanish football league system).
