Hangzhou venues ready for 2022 Asian Games

Authorities have announced that the project to renovate key venues for Hangzhou’s (China) hosting of the 2022 Asian Games has been completed.

The ‘Australasian Leisure Management’ stated that the Yellow Dragon Sports Center in Hangzhou (China), which is due to host football, water polo and gymnastics competition at this year’s Games features a 52,000-capacity main stadium, a 6,000-seater gymnasium and a 2,000-capacity aquatics center which will host water polo competition.

The 2022 Asian Games, also known as XIX Asiad, is a forthcoming multisport event to be celebrated in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China from September 10th to September 25th, 2022. Hangzhou will be the third Chinese City to host the Asian Games after Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.

The ‘Australasian Leisure Management’ further stated that built between 1997 and 2003, with the main stadium opening in 2000, the complex is located 18 kilometers from the Asian Games Village and includes three of the 55 competition venues to be used throughout Hangzhou 2022. It has undergone a two-year renovation in preparation for the Games.

Announcing the completion, the official Facebook page of the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, TV and Tourism, stated “Teamwork makes the dream work – the Hangzhou Asian Games is getting ready to race out of the blocks! As a branch venue for the Asian Games, the Yellow Dragon Sports Center Stadium has recently been refurbished. The upgraded ‘New Yellow Dragon’ has finally unveiled its mysteries. Hangzhou citizens can now enjoy the exciting competitions at the convenience of their doorsteps.”

Set to run from September 10th to September 25th, the 19th Asian Games will utilize a total of 55 competition venues.

Among new venues, the 80,000-seat ‘Big Lotus’ main stadium and the 10,000-seat ‘Small Lotus’ tennis center are its main attractions.
