The Frasers Group has announced that Gary Hoffman has accepted the position of Non-Executive Chairman of the Coventry Building Society Arena in Coventry, England (UK).

‘Coventry Building Society Arena’ stated that the appointment of Hoffman, a former Chair of the English Premier League, follows the recent announcement that Frasers and the Coventry City F.C. have agreed to a new license for the club to continue to play at the Arena.

Shirebrook (UK)-based Frasers Group plc is a British retail, sport and intellectual property group, named after its ownership of the department store chain House of Fraser. The company is best known for trading predominantly under the Sports Direct brand which operates both physical outlets and online.

The 40,500-capacity Coventry Building Society Arena (often shortened to the CBS Arena or just simply Coventry Arena, and formerly known as the Ricoh Arena) is a complex in Coventry, England, UK. It includes a 32,609-seater stadium which is currently home to the football team, Championship club Coventry City F.C.

The Coventry City Football Club is an association football club based in Coventry, West Midlands, England (UK). The team currently play in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. The club is nicknamed the ‘Sky Blues’ because of the color of their home strip.

London (UK)-based the Premier League is the highest level of the English football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the English Football League. Seasons typically run from August to May with each team playing 38 matches.

‘Coventry Building Society Arena’ further stated that Michael Murray, head honcho of Frasers Group, said, “We are delighted to welcome Gary to the Arena. Gary is a lifelong ‘Sky Blues’ fan and brings a wealth of relevant experience to the role. This appointment is aligned with our commitment to invest in the Arena and support the local community.”

Stated Gary Hoffman, “I am delighted to be joining the Coventry Building Society Arena at such an exciting time for the Coventry City F.C. and the people of Coventry. I look forward to working on behalf of Frasers to benefit the community and further strengthen the Arena’s relationship with all its partners including the club.”

In addition to his former role at the Premier League, Hoffman is also a former Vice-Chairman of the Coventry City F.C.

The Frasers Group acquired the Arena in November and has since signed a new five year license agreement with the club, with all parties committed to continuing work towards making the Arena the long-term home of Coventry City F.C.
