The strategic management consulting firm CAA ICON has replaced rival firm Legends Project Development as the Project Manager for the National Basketball Association (NBA) team Los Angeles Clippers’ (US) new US$1.8 billion Intuit Dome development (future home of the Clippers).

The ‘ECONOTIMES’ stated that after initially enlisting CAA ICON, a subsidiary of sports agency CAA, to audit the project, the National Basketball Association team chose to hire a different Project Manager. CAA ICON will now be in charge of monitoring the joint venture between the premier builder of large and complex projects AECOM Hunt (Indiana-based) and the American construction company Turner Construction, which is creating the venue.

A division of CAA Sports, Denver (US)-based CAA ICON is the world’s leading owner’s representative and strategic management consulting firm for public and private sports, entertainment and public assembly facility owners/operators, professional franchises, and leagues.

The Legends Project Development provides comprehensive Owner’s Representative and Project Management services to the sports, entertainment and public assembly industries.

The Los Angeles Clippers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles (US). The Clippers compete in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Pacific Division in the league’s Western Conference.

The 20,000-capacity Crypto.com Arena is a multipurpose arena in Downtown Los Angeles (US). Adjacent to the L.A. Live development, it is located next to the Los Angeles Convention Center complex along Figueroa Street. The arena opened on October 17th, 1999. It serves as the residence of the Los Angeles Clippers.

The 18,000-capacity Intuit Dome is an indoor arena under construction in Inglewood, California (US). Located South of the 70,000-capacity SoFi Stadium, it will be the future home of the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association, moving from Crypto.com Arena – which is currently shared as their home arena with the NBA team Los Angeles Lakers.

The ‘ECONOTIMES’ further stated that the Legends representatives were told of the decision to cease the company’s involvement following a meeting with Clippers’ management on April 21st.

The 18,000-seat arena in Inglewood will also contain a training facility, office space and a sports health center, with completion expected in 2024.

The decision to shift Project Managers is unusual, and CAA ICON will now be responsible for ensuring that the Intuit Dome is completed on schedule and within budget.

The CAA ICON is a key player in the industry, having worked on projects such as the US$1.9 billion 65,000-capacity Allegiant Stadium, which houses the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). The Major League Soccer (MLS) teams Austin FC’s 20,738-capacity Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, and the Nashville SC’s 30,000-capacity Geodis Park in Nashville, Tennessee, are two recent Major League Soccer projects for the firm.

While Legends will no longer be involved in the most expensive indoor arena project in US sports history, it has recently been awarded a substantial contract by Major League Baseball (MLB) to manage the refurbishment of the Toronto Blue Jays 53,506-capacity Rogers Centre home in Toronto, Canada.
