Urcu Grup to re-start Iraq project Image: Bechu + Associés

The Urcu Group, which operates in many sectors on a national and international scale, from construction to energy, from health to aviation, has embarked on a stadium project in Iraq – which has been gathering dust – with its wealth of experience.

‘Haber7.com’ stated that within the scope of the agreement signed with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Iraq, the Urcu Group will take up the unfinished work of building the Nasiriyah Olympic Stadium in Nasiriyah, Iraq, with a capital injection of 40 million dollars. The project, which is scheduled to be completed in two years’ time, is the beginning of the company’s long-term investment plans in the Middle East country.

Istanbul (Turkey)-based the Urcu Group was founded in 2010 by a group of successful businessmen. The Group started off as a contractor in the Middle East region and over time the company excelled in construction through its fast, flexible and creative services, scoring quick success and earning a reputation for itself.

The Nasiriyah Olympic Stadium is a football stadium project in Nasiriyah, Iraq. The project dates back to 2014 and has an estimated cost of around 108 billion Iraqi dinars ($95 million). The venue will boast a main stadium with a capacity of 30,000 seats, an athletics stadium with 2,000 seats, a training stadium with 500 seats, and a four-star hotel. The Nasiriyah Olympic Stadium project was mothballed due to issues with its original partner. The Turkish company the Urcu Group has agreed to resume work on the stadium.

‘Haber7.com’ further stated that the Urcu Group, which develops projects in many parts of the world, especially in the Middle East, with the determination of “becoming an institution that opens to every corner of the world from Turkey”, accelerated its investments with the recognition it gained in the Iraqi market in a short span of time. It has taken up the Nasiriyah Olympic Stadium project in Iraq which has been hanging fire since the year 2014.

The above stadium project is expected to be completed in as little as two years’ time.

The Urcu Group Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors Tolga Urcu informed that they will undertake the Nasiriyah Olympic Stadium project which will be able to hold 30,000 spectators, and the added attractions will be a 75-room hotel and several training fields in the City of Nasiriyah, Iraq, within the scope of the agreement they signed with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Iraq, and will pump in 40 million dollars.

He added, “As Urcu Group, we operate in the fields of construction, oil and gas field services, treatment of wastewater management and recycling, wood applications and interior design, medical services, and international trade and aviation with our companies located in different geographies and sectors. We increase our effectiveness in the geographies in which we operate with our knowledge, experience and global communication power. In this context, we are starting a new project with the rich experience we have gained in the Iraqi market. With this project, which was previously initiated by a French company which they could not continue, we will ensure that the regional teams compete under better conditions and new talents are brought to the sport. We will complete the project, which will meet the comfort and functionality expectations of athletes with its high-level equipment, in a very short period of two years.”

Trade Bridge

Emphasizing that they aim to establish a trade bridge between Turkey and Iraq with the project, the Urcu Group Founder further informed that they will procure the products to be used in construction from Turkey – “During the construction period, we will give preference to Turkey when it comes to procuring construction materials. We will accord topmost priority in accelerating trade activities between Turkey and Iraq which has gained momentum in recent years. The stadium project will bear testimony to the prowess of the Turkey construction industry.”

New Projects

The Urcu Group, which has several projects currently underway in Iraq, will send out a strong investment statement with the Nasiriyah Olympic Stadium project. The Group has landed several new projects in its kitty in Iraq work on which will start in 2024.
