The King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) closed on December 1st for renovation work to begin. The stadium will undergo an extensive renovation in preparation for the 2027 Asian Cup.

‘Saudi Projects’ stated that it will be a comprehensive development project with capacity increase and plush offerings. The renovation plans also include the addition of Green spaces, bicycle paths, a sports store, and a sports museum, among other facilities.

Saudi Arabia plans to renovate the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh by 2025. The renovation will increase the stadium’s capacity to 80,015 spectators.

‘Ministry of Sports’ stated that to this end the new design of the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) has been revealed which is a vision.

The King Fahd International Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It’s known for its football facility and has a capacity of 67,000. The stadium also has one of the largest stadium roofs in the world.

The King Fahd International Stadium is one of the largest sports stadiums in the Middle East. It’s also known as ‘The Tent’ or ‘Pearl of Stadiums’. The stadium is home to the Saudi national team and Al Hilal SFC which plays in the Saudi Pro League, the highest division of association football in the Saudi league system.

The stadium’s roof is made up of 24 identical elements, each with a 58 meter high mast. The elements are evenly distributed over a circle with a diameter of 246 meters. The roof is secured with a 134 meter ring cable, which is about 33 meters above the playing field.

The King Fahd International Stadium’s renovation is expected to be completed in time for the 2027 Asian Cup. The stadium will host the Asian Cup for the first time in the Kingdom’s history.

The 2027 AFC Asian Cup will be the 19th edition of the AFC Asian Cup, the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Asia organized by the Asian Football Confederation. The tournament involves 24 national teams after the expansion in 2019. It will be held in Saudi Arabia. It is scheduled to be held in January 2027.
