Stadiums for 2030 WC bid revealed Spain Portugal Image: MJR Group Ltd./Coliseum

The stadiums of LaLiga (the men’s top professional football division of the Spanish football league system) clubs FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF and Atlético de Madrid (Spain) are among venues seeking to host matches if the 2030 World Cup takes place in Spain and Portugal, the Spanish soccer federation said on
July 14th.

‘abc NEWS’ stated that a total of 15 stadiums have offered to be among the 11 Spanish venues expected to host games if the Iberian bid is successful. Portugal would host matches in three venues.

The 2030 FIFA World Cup™ will be the 24th FIFA World Cup™, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men’s national teams of the member-associations of FIFA. The event will mark the centennial of the first World Cup.

‘abc NEWS’ further stated that FC Barcelona’s 99,354-capacity Spotify Camp Nou in Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid’s 68,456-capacity Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid and Real Madrid CF’s 81,044-capacity Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid highlight the initial list, which also includes the venues of Athletic Bilbao, Valencia CF, RC Celta de Vigo, and Real Sociedad. Both Spotify Camp Nou and the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium are expected to be fully renovated by the 2030 World Cup.

Spanish Federation President Luis Rubiales said after a meeting to present the venues list and discuss the nations’ bid, “This is the most important project that Spain will undertake in the next few years.”

The evaluation of the Spanish Host Cities will take place through November, with no set date for an announcement of the 11 venues that will be picked for the final bid presentation.

FIFA has yet to officially release the bid requirements for the 2030 World Cup, but Spain and Portugal are planning for a tournament with 48 nations, similar to the one in 2026 in the United States, Canada and México.

FIFA is expected to select the 2030 World Cup host nations in 2024.
