L&T - cricket stadium

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is set to build the world’s biggest stadium in India’s western state of Gujarat. The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) on December 8 gave the contract to L&T for making the Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad the biggest cricket stadium in the world in terms of seating capacity.

A dream project of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has served as the chief minister of Gujarat for 12 years.

The old structure in Motera, a suburban neighbourhood of Ahmedabad, has already been razed and work will now begin to build a new stadium which will house 1,10,000 people, the biggest in terms of seating capacity. With this, the new Motera stadium will surpass Australia’s humongous Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) which can hold 100,024 people.

The cricket stadium will be a iconic and landmark sructure in Ahmedabad city.

“The ground is ready to be handed over to the construction company. The new stadium, when completed, will be the largest cricket stadium in the world which will be made to meet all the latest the international standards,” a GCA press release said. The new stadium will have improved infrastructure for the spectators with an increase in the number of air-conditioned boxes and up-gradation of the parking facilities.

The entry, stay and exit processes will be smoothed and emphasis will be given to facilitate guided tours of the cricket museum. Other facilities key facilities like eateries, fan-zones and washrooms will be of absolute top notch quality. “In the next two years, the new structure will be ready,” GCA secretary Rajesh Patel said.

Presently the stadium with its six pavilions has a capacity of 54,000.

More details of this project will be discussed at the next Coliseum Summit ASIA in the Chinese capital Beijing in September 2017.
