This Summer’s refurbishment of the Old Trafford (Stretford, England, UK) tunnel is officially complete in time for Manchester United F.C.’s Premier League opener against Fulham F.C. on August 16th.

‘MANCHESTER UNITED’ stated that Erik ten Hag’s (Manchester United Manager) men are currently preparing for this weekend’s The Football Association (FA) Community Shield match against their peer team Manchester City F.C. at the Wembley Stadium.

The Old Trafford is a football stadium in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England (UK) and the home of the Manchester United F.C. With a capacity of 74,310 it is the largest club football stadium in the United Kingdom and the 12th-largest in Europe.

The Manchester United Football Club, commonly referred to as Man United (often stylized as Man Utd), or simply United, is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England (UK). The club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.

The Fulham Football Club is a professional football club based in Fulham, West London, England (UK). The club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football. The 24,500-capacity Craven Cottage in Fulham, England (UK) serves as their home pitch.

London (UK)-based The Football Association or The FA is the governing body of association football in England and the Crown Dependencies of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. Formed in 1863, it is the oldest football association in the world and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the amateur and professional game in its territory.

The Football Association Community Shield (formerly the Charity Shield) is English football’s annual match contested at the Wembley Stadium between the champions of the previous Premier League season and the holders of the FA Cup (an annual knockout football competition in domestic English football).

The 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium is an association football stadium in Wembley, London (UK). It opened in 2007 on the site of the original Wembley Stadium which had stood from 1923 until 2003. The stadium is England’s national football stadium.

‘MANCHESTER UNITED’ further stated that after that ‘The Reds’ will return to ‘The Theatre of Dreams’ (Old Trafford) to start the new top-flight campaign beneath the floodlights in front of 75,000 fans.

The objective was to modernize the tunnel space to create an environment that will inspire and motivate the Manchester United men’s, women’s and Academy players on matchdays.

The new-look tunnel features light-emitting diode (LED) lights on the ceiling where the players wait before walking out onto the pitch.

A Red Devil silhouette adorns the wall on the left with the word ‘UNITED’ dominating the wall on the right. The backlit club crests can also be seen on the ceiling and the wall.

At the top of the tunnel, a heritage area includes the repositioned plaques in tribute to the former club President John Henry Davies and the former owner James W. Gibson.

The eagle crest worn by United in the 1958 FA Cup Final, inspired by the Manchester coat of arms, is also displayed.

Further Upgrades

Work to replace the Stretford End’s executive seating area with general admission season-tickets also began in July in consultation with the Fans’ Advisory Board.

The decision added to a series of fan-centric steps taken by the club following consultation with the fan representatives including the installation of rail seating and the creation of a dedicated atmosphere section in the Stretford End.
