Miami Freedom Park will open in April Image: Miami Freedom Park

If one has driven past the Miami International Airport over the past few months one cannot miss a parking lot full of rubble rapidly transform into what will soon be one of Miami’s premier entertainment destinations.

‘MIAMI New Times’ stated that in an email to the Inter Miami ticket holders the local football club announced that the hotly anticipated Miami Freedom Park will officially open to the public on April 4th, 2026.

The Inter Miami CF is an American professional soccer club based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (US). The club competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Eastern Conference.

The Chase Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. Built on the site of the former Lockhart Stadium the 21,550-seat stadium is the home pitch of the Inter Miami CF of Major League Soccer (MLS).

The Miami Freedom Park is a 25,000-seat soccer-specific stadium under construction in Miami, Florida (US). It is planned to be the home of the Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF. In 2022, final approval was given by the City of Miami to build a stadium on the current site of the Melreese golf course close to the Miami International Airport. The decision followed a long process in which numerous locations were considered for the stadium. The current plans would see the stadium opened for the 2026 MLS season.

Inter Miami wrote in the newsletter mailout, “It’s official! The 2026 MLS season schedule has been announced and with it comes a moment years in the making. On April 4th, 2026, the Inter Miami CF will play our first MLS match in our new 25,000-seat, state-of-the-art stadium, Miami Freedom Park! Inter Miami will be hosting Austin FC in the stadium’s historic debut.”

‘MIAMI New Times’ further stated that the regular season kicks off on the road against Los Angeles FC on February 21st.

The season ticket members have first dibs on seats with tickets starting at just $40 per match, according to Inter Miami’s site. A virtual tour of the stadium – with renderings of the view from specific sections and seating – is also available on the site for the prospective ticket holders.

As the team and the fans have awaited the stadium’s construction Inter Miami has played its matches at Fort Lauderdale’s Chase Stadium. It’s a worthwhile hike for Lionel Messi fanatics (and there are many), but staying local will surely be a relief for the Miami fans. Of course, there’s always a catch here. Questions remain about how bad traffic will get as fans of the popular team and its star player flock to fill up Miami Freedom Park’s 25,000 seats so close to MIA – especially during busy travel periods.

The above announcement comes as Miami prepares to host another anticipated global event next year: The FIFA World Cup™. While the seven local games will not take place at the Miami Freedom Park – the 75,000-capacity Hard Rock Stadium is hosting the matches – futból aficionados will likely see the new stadium as they exit the airport and head for the Miami Gardens.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup™, marketed as FIFA World Cup 26™, will be the 23rd FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international Men’s soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will take place from June 11th to July 19th, 2026. It will be jointly hosted by 16 Cities in three North American countries. The main host country of matches is the United States while Canada and Mexico will co-host. The tournament will be the first to be hosted by three nations.
