MHPArena stand ready to roll for EURO show

The Bundesliga team VfB Stuttgart (Germany) will soon be able to use its main stand again just in time for EURO 2024. The renovation work should be completed for the home game to be held during the Easter weekend.

‘kicker’ stated that the main stand of the MHPArena in Stuttgart, Germany, has been under renovation for almost two years. Initially, it was supposed to be completed at the beginning of the year, later the home game of VfB Stuttgart against their peer team 1. FC Köln (1:1) delayed matters.

The VfB Stuttgart, or simply VfB, is a German professional sports club based in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The club’s football team is currently part of Germany’s first division, the Bundesliga.

The 60,449-capacity MHPArena is a stadium located in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and home to the Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart. It hosted football matches during the 1974 FIFA World Cup™, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) EURO 1988 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup™.

Nyon (Switzerland)-based the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is one of six continental bodies of governance in association football. It governs football, futsal and beach football in Europe and the transcontinental countries of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, and Kazakhstan, as well as the Asian country Israel. The UEFA consists of 55 national association members. Since 2022, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian national teams and clubs from any FIFA and UEFA competitions.

‘kicker’ further stated that the targeted stand opening date of March 8th cannot be met. The stand was scheduled for a March 8^th opening with a VfB match against their peer team the 1. FC Union Berlin. However, the construction work is almost over.

Jörg Klopfer, spokesman for Stadion NeckarPark GmbH & Co. KG., (a private real estate company headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, who is the owner of the MHP Arena) confirmed that the renovation would be completed soon. The main stand is slated to be ready by the Easter weekend from March 29^th-31^st. Though not confirmed by the German Football League (DFL), the VfB is likely to welcome spectators back to the main stand with a match against their peer team 1. FC Heidenheim.

Frankfurt (Germany)-based the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL), also known as the German Football League, is the governing body of German football. It’s a subsidiary of Die Liga – Fußballverband, and was founded on December 19^th, 2000. The DFL is responsible for the entire operating business of the Ligaverband (an association of 36 German professional football clubs and companies that participate in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga), including the Bundesliga (the top of the German football league system) and the 2. Bundesliga (the second division of professional football in Germany) leagues.

EURO 2024 Venue

Apart from three more VfB home games to be held later in the season, the MHPArena will also be the venue for four preliminary round games to be held during EURO 2024 – including the game between the German national team and Hungary on June 19^th from 6 pm onwards and one of the European Championship quarter-final will also be held in the facility.

The 2024 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA EURO 2024 or simply EURO 2024, will be the 17^th edition of the UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international football championship organized by the UEFA for the men’s national teams of its member-associations. It will be hosted by Germany from June 14^th-July 14^th.
