Munich Olympic bid ‘one-village concept’

The State of Bavaria capital Munich along with the Free State of Bavaria will develop a detailed concept as regards Germany’s bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This would likely be for the 2036 or 2040 sporting extravaganza.

It will be a “one-village concept” with a regional tang to it.

The last time Munich (Germany) hosted the Summer Olympic Games was in 1972.

‘muenchende’ stated that the above decision was taken on February 5^th and the concept would be drawn up by the end of May.

The Summer Olympic Games are the biggest multisport event in the world. More than 10,000 athletes from over 200 countries compete in more than 30 different sports! The Paralympic Games take place soon after the Olympic Games and they are the biggest international event for the athletes with disabilities.

‘muenchende’ further stated that the above concept will be drawn in response to a catalog of requirements that was sent to the relevant local authorities in December last year by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) was founded on May 20^th, 2006 following the merger of the Deutscher Sportbund (DSB) and the Nationales Olympisches Komitee für Deutschland (NOK) which dates back to 1895 – the year it was founded and recognized as NOC by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Headquartered in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) it represents 89,000 clubs and 27,000,000 members, about a third of the population of Germany.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is the international, non-Governmental sports governing body of the modern Olympic Games. Founded in 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin and Demetrios Vikelas it is based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The entire concept will have a regional flavor to it which means bringing together the athletes and as many sports as possible in a so-called “one-village concept” – and will not involve several Cities or regions.

Munich would like to bid for hosting the 2036 or 2040 Olympic Games.

Hosting the Olympics in the Free State of Bavaria will bring long-term economic benefits, infrastructure benefits and the fond memories which the Games leave behind (which was the case with the 1972 Munich Olympics) which is a living legacy. The Olympic Games are all about their legacies.
