A showcase event is in store for the sporting community with Munster Rugby (Ireland) confirmed to play a South Africa Select XV on November 10th at the Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork (City in Ireland).

The Munster Rugby is one of the four professional provincial rugby teams from the island of Ireland. They compete in the United Rugby Championship (annual rugby union competition involving professional teams from Ireland, Italy, Scotland, South Africa, and Wales) and the European Rugby Champions Cup (annual rugby union tournament organized by the European Professional Club Rugby). The team represents the Irish Rugby Football Union’s (IRFU’s) (the body managing rugby union in the island of Ireland) Munster branch, which is responsible for rugby union throughout the Irish province of Munster.

The 2,600-capacity Thomond Park is a stadium at Limerick in the Irish province of Munster. The stadium is owned by the Irish Rugby Football Union and serves as the residence of Munster Rugby.

The 45,000-capacity Páirc Uí Chaoimh is a Gaelic games stadium in Cork, Ireland. It is the home of Cork GAA. The venue, often referred to simply as The Park, is located in Ballintemple and is built near to the site of the original Cork Athletic Grounds.

The Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association or Cork GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Cork and the Cork county teams. It is one of the constituent counties of Munster GAA.

‘Munster Rugby’ stated that commenting on the venue announcement, Munster Rugby head honcho Ian Flanagan said, “This is a huge honor and significant milestone for Munster Rugby, one we are very proud to be associated with. Our thanks to the IRFU, GAA and Cork GAA for all their input, time and consideration given to reviewing this proposal and for permitting us to host our touring game against the South Africa Select XV at the Páirc Uí Chaoimh on November 10th, on what will be an incredible and historic occasion. This is not only for our supporters and the rugby community, but also further reaching, and we understand the magnitude of being the first professional rugby team to play at the home of Cork GAA.”

Added Flanagan, “While we recognize we have a fantastic facility in Thomond Park, one we are very proud of, bringing the game to a wider audience within the province has been one of our strategic objectives for many years and it is a credit to our staff for their commitment to reaching this goal.”

‘Munster Rugby’ further stated that ticket details will be confirmed by the end of the week.
