New cricket stadium planned for LaGrange

A new 10,500-seat cricket stadium is set to be built in LaGrange, Atlanta after plans were revealed by DAS Cricket Academy and Atlanta Blackcaps.

Atlanta Business Chronicle said Selig Enterprises has sold 45 acres of land next to Great Wolf Lodge waterpark in LaGrange to an investment group for an undisclosed price.

The group plans to build a 10,500-seat cricket stadium near the waterpark.

Selig Enterprises sold the land to the founders of DAS Cricket Academy and NJ Blackcaps in New Jersey, which has since become the Atlanta Blackcaps after joining the United States Premier League last year.

The stadium is expected to be part of a 180-acre mixed-use community, Sola.

The LaGrange Cricket Stadium will be the first privately owned cricket stadium in the United States and the fourth cricket stadium in the country.

A stadium project of this magnitude would immediately cement Georgia as a destination for high-level cricket, potentially boosting international tourist spending and giving the state a foothold among the country’s 30 million estimated cricket fans.

Siddharth Das, founder of The LaGrange Cricket Stadium, said, “Ever since Major League Cricket launched in the U.S. in 2023 and the famous win for USA against Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup games last summer, the popularity of the sport has grown exponentially.

“With its mild, year-round climate and proximity to the Atlanta airport, LaGrange serves as the perfect location for cricket’s next expansion.

“We look forward to introducing this sport to a growing audience in the greater Atlanta region and showing why more than 2.5 billion people enjoy cricket worldwide.”

Currently, the plan is to break ground on the LaGrange Cricket Stadium this fall and complete the project in the first quarter of 2027.

With 10,500 seats (and the ability to expand to 25,000), the LaGrange Cricket Stadium will be ICC (International Cricket Council)-regulated in size. The open-air stadium will also have a FIFA-regulated soccer field and host a variety of events.

Additionally, a hotel with a sports-focused food and beverage program is planned on the 45-acre site, complementing the Marriott hotel, which is currently under construction there.

Noble Investment Group recently purchased a two-acre parcel within Sola to develop a four-story, 124-room StudioRes by Marriott hotel, which is currently under construction on Timberwolf Drive.

Great Wolf Lodge, a family-oriented resort and indoor waterpark that now successfully operates in Sola’s northern parcel, actually kick-started Selig’s vision for the area.

Selig is still working to add offices, residential units, including apartments and single-family homes, to the 195-acre Sola mixed-use development.
