The National Rugby League (NRL) is heading to Las Vegas (US) with a double-header confirmed to kick off the 2024 campaign in style, with the four teams included now confirmed.

‘LOVE RUGBY LEAGUE’ stated that Brisbane Broncos, Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, South Sydney Rabbitohs, and Sydney Roosters have all been selected to make the trip to the United States early next year with the teams set to play a historic double-header at the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada (US) on March 2nd.

Sydney (Australia)-based the National Rugby League (NRL) is a professional rugby league competition in Australasia which contains clubs from New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, and New Zealand.

The Brisbane Broncos Rugby League Football Club Limited, commonly referred to as the Broncos, is an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Brisbane, Queensland (Australia). Founded in April 1987, the Broncos play in Australia’s elite competition, the National Rugby League premiership. The 52,500-capacity Suncorp Stadium in Milton, Australia, serves as their home ground.

The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are an Australian professional rugby league club based in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The team colors are maroon and white, while their namesake and logo is the sea eagle. They compete in Australia’s premier rugby league competition, the National Rugby League. The 18,000-capacity Brookvale Oval in Brookvale, Australia, is their residence.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are a professional Australian rugby league club based in Redfern, a suburb of inner-southern Sydney, New South Wales. They participate in the National Rugby League premiership and are one of the nine existing teams from the State capital, Sydney. They are often called ‘Souths’ or ‘The Bunnies’. The 83,500-capacity Accor Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park, Australia, serves as their home pitch.

The Sydney Roosters are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the Eastern Suburbs and parts of inner Sydney including the central business district (CBD). The club competes in the National Rugby League competition. The 45,500-capacity Allianz Stadium in Moore Park, Australia, serves as their home arena.

‘LOVE RUGBY LEAGUE’ quoted the NRL head honcho Andrew Abdo as stating that the double-header will see rugby league on a stage which the sport has never been on before – “The 2024 Las Vegas matches will form part of an exciting ‘Australia Week’ in Las Vegas where we will be showcasing rugby league and Australia to the United States market. We are now working collaboratively with the four clubs to finalize arrangements for the proposed matches in Las Vegas and make this a blockbuster event for fans by maximizing travel, attendance and enjoyment of a unique rugby league experience. Rugby league will be on a stage which the sport has simply never been on before and we look forward to giving all clubs the opportunity in the coming years.”

Exciting Plans

The Broncos will play the Roosters and the Rabbitohs will face the Sea Eagles in the first matches played for premiership points outside of Australia and New Zealand.

The Sea Eagles Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tony Mestrov believes the plans will capture the attention of a global audience, while the Rabbitohs have previously played in the United States when they met Leeds Rhinos (a professional rugby league club in Leeds, UK) in the 2008 Australia Day Challenge in Jacksonville, Florida.

Said Mestrov, “The Americans will love seeing what our brilliant game offers. The NRL has always been the toughest contact sport in the world and now people in America will get the chance to witness two premiership matches live. This has been a longtime goal of our great owners, the Penn family, to bring the Sea Eagles to America and now that it is going to happen is just an amazing feeling. A lot of hard work and investment has gone into making this become a reality.”

The Rabbitohs are co-owned by the Hollywood star Russell Crowe, and the Sea Eagles boast the Australian actor Hugh Jackman as a high-profile supporter.
