Ohanian-Serena sisters LAGC first TGL team

TGL, the new primetime team golf league developed by Tiger Woods (celebrated American professional golfer) and Rory McIlroy’s (Northern Irish professional golfer) TMRW Sports in partnership with the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA Tour) (US), has announced the formation of its first of six team ownership groups with Seven Seven Six’s (776) founder Alexis Ohanian, tennis greats Serena Williams and Venus Williams (American tennis players).

‘TGL Golf’ stated that their Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) (Ohanian plus the Williams sisters) will be the newest sports team to represent Los Angeles (US) and will compete in TGL’s first season launching in January 2024. The announcement was made by Ohanian and the TGL head honcho Mike McCarley.

Founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and sports executive Mike McCarley, the TMRW Sports is focused on harnessing technology to build progressive approaches in sports, media and entertainment to create new pathways for the next generation to enjoy sports.

Alexis Ohanian is a tech founder and venture capitalist. He’s written a national bestselling book, ‘Without Their Permission’, and co-founded Reddit, one of the largest websites in the United States currently valued at more than $10B. In 2020, he founded Seven Seven Six, a new firm built like a technology company that deploys venture capital with over $750M assets under management. Serena Williams is the wife of Ohanian.

Alexis Ohanian has formed the Los Angeles Golf Club, a new team for a virtual golf league. Alexis Ohanian is no stranger to shaking things up. The Reddit creator, along with his wife Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams, have formed the Los Angeles Golf Club.

‘TGL Golf’ further stated that underscoring a successful track record of building community, not only as the creator of Reddit and founder of 776, but also through sport, Ohanian is the Principal Owner and founding investor of Los Angeles’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) juggernaut Angel City FC.

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is a professional women’s soccer league at the top of the United States league system. Headquartered in New York City, US, it is owned by the teams and, until 2020, was under a management contract with the United States Soccer Federation.

Chicago (US)-based the United States Soccer Federation, commonly referred to as U.S. Soccer, is a 501 nonprofit organization and the official governing body of the sport of soccer in the United States.

The Angel City Football Club is a National Women’s Soccer League expansion team that began play in 2022. The team is based in Los Angeles, California (US), and was announced on July 21^st, 2020. The 22,000-capacity BMO Stadium serves as their home facility.

The Angel City FC has shattered expectations and was featured in HBO’s docu-series ‘Angel City’, which helped to ignite investment in women’s sports worldwide.

After a competitive bid process, Ohanian has acquired the rights to a TGL team representing Los Angeles which will reflect the City’s rich sports culture, thriving technology scene and diverse community.
