Phoenix Raceway announced on January 30 a massive $178 million modernisation plan. The renovation is aimed at improving amenities for all racegoers – participants, sponsors, and fans alike. The one-mile, low-banked tri-oval race track located in Avondale, Arizona hosts a handful of Verizon IndyCar and NASCAR races throughout the year.

The biggest changes will be a revised infield, dubbed the Monster NASCAR Cup Series Garage Fan Zone (where fans will be able to get up close with drivers and teams), moving the start/finish line to Turn 2, and creating a new tunnel for pedestrians to get to and from the infield and their seating areas, which will also apparently have Wi-Fi. Close to the seats will be new elevators, bathrooms, and concessions, too.

Moving the start/finish line closer to Turn 2 will apparently change the racing dynamic quite a bit, making things more competitive and giving audience members a better vantage point to watch races start and end.

Bryan Sperber, president of Phoenix Raceway, said: “When our project is completed, we will have a venue that delivers amazing fan experiences to go along with our reputation for great racing action.”

More insights on the renovation are expected to be revealed at Coliseum Summit AMERICAS, April 19-20, 2017 at Las Vegas, Nevada.
