Queen's Park FC to renovate Lesser Hampden Image: Queen's Park FC

The Scottish professional football club – Queen’s Park Football Club – has revealed plans on the redevelopment of their home at Lesser Hampden (Scotland) – which will now deliver a bigger and better stadium.

The ‘Queen’s Park FC’ stated that the new plans, which are at various stages of planning approvals, will deliver a stadium with enhanced facilities when compared to the original design and gives the club flexibility to increase capacity in the future. The planned development will be delivered over two phases.

The 470-capacity Lesser Hampden is a football stadium in Mount Florida, Glasgow, Scotland, which is located immediately beside the Western end of the 51,866-capacity Hampden Park Stadium.

The Queen’s Park Football Club is a Scottish professional football club based in Glasgow (Scotland), which currently plays in Scottish League One, the third tier of the Scottish football pyramid.

For over a century, the club’s home was Hampden Park in South-East Glasgow, a Category 4 stadium which is also the home of the Scotland national team. The club are due to move into their reserve and training ground adjacent to the main stadium, Lesser Hampden, with plans to redevelop it into a 1,774-seat stadium.

The Hampden Park is a football stadium in the Mount Florida area of Glasgow, Scotland. The 51,866-capacity venue serves as the national stadium of football in Scotland. It is the normal home venue of the Scotland national football team and was the home of club side Queen’s Park for over a century.

Lesser Hampden will now deliver:

  • A 1,000-capacity East Stand running the full length of the pitch;
  • State-of-the-art new dressing rooms will now be pitch side, below the existing JB McAlpine Pavilion;
  • The pitch will be moved and resurfaced, giving space for a new South Stand (Letherby Drive end) to accommodate 500 visiting supporters;
  • A new area for Directors and sponsors will be housed adjacent to the existing JB McAlpine Pavilion; and
  • The JB McAlpine Pavilion will be refitted internally, giving more space for social facilities and other stadium related essentials.

The ‘Queen’s Park FC’ further stated that to accommodate these plans, the difficult decision has been made to demolish the farmhouse building, as its condition has deteriorated significantly over time. It would also limit the club’s ability to expand improved facilities towards the Somerville Drive side of the ground.

Phase 1 will see the East Stand, avant-garde dressing rooms, sponsors and directors’ area and time-permitting, the pitch moved and resurfaced.

Phase 2 will see the new South Stand and a refit of the JB McAlpine Pavilion.

Plans remain on track to open season 2022-2023 at Lesser Hampden.
