Real Madrid teams up with Daktronics Image: Real Madrid

The Spanish professional football club Real Madrid CF (Spain) and the American electronics company Daktronics have announced a multiyear global collaboration agreement whereby the world leader in audiovisual systems will become the supplier of the 360-degree video scoreboard and the fascia of the first amphitheater (the band made up of LED screens that will cover the first stadium ring) to be installed in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain.

The ‘Real Madrid’ stated that the event took place at the Real Madrid City and was attended by Emilio Butragueño, the club’s Director of Institutional Relations, and Iván del Río, Regional Manager of Daktronics.

The Real Madrid CF is a Spanish professional football club based in Madrid, Spain. Founded on March 6th, 1902 as the Madrid Football Club, the club has traditionally worn a white home kit since inception.

The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is a football stadium in Madrid, Spain. With a current seating capacity of 81,044, it has been the home stadium of Real Madrid since its completion in 1947. It is the second-largest stadium in Spain and third-largest home to a top-flight European club after the 99,354-capacity Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain, and the 81,365-capacity Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, Germany.

Daktronics is an American company based in Brookings, South Dakota (US) that designs, manufactures, sells, and services video displays, scoreboards, digital billboards, dynamic message signs, sound systems, and related products.

The ‘Real Madrid’ further stated that thanks to this alliance, Daktronics will be responsible for designing, manufacturing and installing, together with Legaz Architecture and Engineering, its partner for installations and maintenance, a system of more than 3,700 square meters of LED screens in the stadium.

Said Iván del Río, Regional Manager of Daktronics, “In the process of deciding which design to implement, different ideas, formats and various existing projects were considered and examined, until arriving at the Halo 360-degree solution. With this configuration of LED screens, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium will be at the forefront of technology and at the same level as the best stadiums in the world. These screens will serve Real Madrid to offer unique experiences both in its competitions and in the other multiple uses of the stadium in the future.”

Characteristics

The 360-degree video scoreboard combines 18 LED screens, both inside and on the back. It will be a vital part of the matchday experience, as well as other events taking place at the stadium. The interior corners will have screens that will allow the image to be curved to offer a continuous and uninterrupted view of the digital content.

All screens will be 13HD pixel resolution to provide excellent image clarity and contrast at every seat. In addition, they will offer the possibility of displaying a large image or several areas of content. It can include live video, instant replays, statistics, graphics, animations, and sponsorship messages.

Daktronics will also include its Show Control solution in this installation. This industry-leading system provides a combination of screen control software, video processing, data integration, and playback hardware that forms an easy-to-use production solution.
