The LaLiga club Real Madrid CF (Spain) are almost ready to host matches again in their spruced up digs. Their first game of the season will be held at their residence – the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain – on September 3^rd vs. their peer team Real Betis.

The 2022-2023 LaLiga (men’s top professional football division of the Spanish football league system), also known as LaLiga Santander due to sponsorship reasons, is the 92^nd season of LaLiga, Spain’s premier football competition. It commenced on August 12^th, 2022 and is scheduled to end on June 4^th, 2023.

‘managingmadrid.com’ stated that though the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium total spruce-up work is on, rapid progress is being made on the same.

Real Betis Balompié, known as Real Betis or just Betis, is a Spanish professional football club based in Seville in the autonomous community of Andalusia (Spain). Founded in 1907, it plays in LaLiga. It holds home games at the 60,720-capacity Benito Villamarín Stadium in Seville, Spain.

In May 2019, Real awarded Spanish building and infrastructure company FCC Construcción the contract to handle the facelifting of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. At the time, Real said the timeframe required to refurbish the Bernabéu was 39 months, meaning it would be over by August 2022, plus an extra four months would be required to spruce up the stadium’s exterior. But the whole exercise got delayed due to the global outbreak of COVID-19 in March 2020.

‘managingmadrid.com’ further stated that the plan is for the renovations to be complete in time for the 2023-2024 seasons. The new drone footage which the club released on August 29th shows the work that’s been done until now, like the installation of the museum beam as well as the underground greenhouse (which has six levels) which will help preserve the grass in order to hold events the whole year round.

The drone footage also shows the grass being laid and the same was laid over a course of 44 hours, and will be fresh and ready to be used in Real Madrid’s home opener vs. Real Betis on September 3^rd.

The subterranean greenhouse will ensure their playing surface remains pristine even when it is retracted.

‘GIVEMESPORT’ stated that fans will get to savor the sleek look which the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is wearing – with repurposing work almost through – when Real Madrid take on Real Betis on September 3^rd in the former’s digs.

‘GIVEMESPORT’ further stated that one of the big changes coming to arguably the most iconic stadium in European football is the automatic removal of the pitch, which will be state-of-the-art and will facilitate the ground to host multiple events – including music concerts and National Football League (NFL) (US) games. It has been termed as an “engineering masterpiece”.

The greenhouse will allow the automatic removal of the pitch and its preservation in optimal conditions and in perfect shape to be used when a football match is to be held. In this way, the number of events that can be held without impacting the grass will be maximized.
