A feasibility plan for the redevelopment of the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy will be presented before the end of September.

Il Secolo XIX said renovation is set to begin in 2026 and the costs will be borne by the Genoa CFC and U.C. Sampdoria football clubs.

The stadium company, formed by the city’s two teams, will present the feasibility study and financial plan by September 30th.

In return for paying for the work, the clubs will earn a 99-year lease on the revamped stadium.

The 33,205-capacity Luigi Ferraris Stadium, also known as the Marassi from the name of the neighborhood where it is located, is a multiuse stadium in Genoa, Italy.

The home of Genoa CFC and the U.C. Sampdoria football clubs it opened in 1911 and is the oldest stadium still in use for football and other sports in Italy.

The Genoa Cricket and Football Club is an Italian professional football club based in Genoa, Liguria (Italy). The team competes in the Serie A, the top division of the Italian football league system. The Luigi Ferraris Stadium serves as their home ground.

U.C. Sampdoria, commonly referred to as Sampdoria, is an Italian professional football club based in Genoa, Liguria (Italy). They compete in Serie B, the second division of the Italian football league system. The Luigi Ferraris Stadium serves as their home pitch.

Mayor of Genoa, Silvia Salis, said, “The fact that the stadium will remain municipal will be a form of financial guarantee.

“The venue, in addition to hosting sporting and artistic events, will have various activities within it: I’m thinking of the possibility of guided tours, events dedicated to children, and other various events.

“I have asked for a guarantee that there will be sporting or catering activities to serve the events held within the facility.”

An agreement for the total spruce-up of the stadium was signed earlier this year between the real estate developer CDS Holding and the two clubs.

Lombardy (Italy)-based the CDS Holding are among the leaders in Italy in the real estate industry and the main player in the development of Retail Real Estate with over 70 structures completed over 25 years for a developed area of over 1,000,000 square meters.

Genoa’s sporting director Flavio Ricciardella said, “The key is to have a stadium that meets the specifications for EURO 2032. It will be a modern, sustainable, and safe facility.

“Meanwhile, the capacity will soon be increased with interventions that will allow us to gain more than 500 seats in the stands and 200 spaces in the terraces.”
