The general admission tickets for the Riyadh Season Card (a series of entertainment, cultural and sporting events) – the Wembley Edition boxing event this month (September 21st) – have sold out, Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority (GEA) revealed recently.

‘ARAB NEWS’ stated that the GEA Chairperson Turki Alalshikh said that the select platinum-level tickets and hospitality packages are still available for the event at the Wembley Stadium in London (UK) on September 21st which features an all-British card.

Riyadh (Saudi Arabia)-based the General Entertainment Authority, formerly the General Authority for Entertainment, is a Government Department in Saudi Arabia that regulates the entertainment industry of the country.

The 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium is an association football stadium in Wembley, London (UK). It opened in 2007 on the site of the original Wembley Stadium which had stood from 1923 until 2003.

‘ARAB NEWS’ further stated that in the headline bout of the evening, the former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (British professional boxer) will take on the International Boxing Federation (a body which sanctions professional boxing bouts and is based in New Jersey, US) interim champion Daniel Dubois (British professional boxer) for the title.

On the undercard, the two-time featherweight champion Josh Warrington (English professional boxer) will challenge the super-featherweight world champion Anthony Cacace (Irish professional boxer) for his belt while Hamza Sheeraz (British professional boxer) will take on the European middleweight champion Tyler Denny in an attempt to claim his European Boxing Union title.

Belgium-based the European Boxing Union, formerly known as the International Boxing Union, is a pan-European governing body that sanctions championship bouts in professional boxing.

The former Olympian Josh Kelly (English professional boxer) will face the former World Boxing Organization (WBO – an organization which sanctions professional boxing bouts and is based in San Juan, Puerto Rico) super-welterweight champion, Liam Smith (British professional boxer), and the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Joshua Buatsi (British professional boxer) will battle Willy Hutchinson (Scottish professional boxer) for the vacant WBO light-heavyweight title.

Completing the card, the World Boxing Association (a body which sanctions professional boxing bouts and is based in Panama City, Panama) intercontinental champion Mark Chamberlain will battle fellow British lightweight Josh Padley, who is undefeated.

The organizers announced in June that the former Oasis (English rock band) frontman Liam Gallagher (English singer-songwriter) would perform at the event.

‘Gripping Event’

‘gea.gov.sa’ quoted Alalshikh as stating, “We are pleased to bring two of the world’s current best heavyweight fighters together in their home city of London and at Wembley Stadium, a historic venue for boxing. We know it will be another exciting contest complemented by a great undercard of fights and we look forward to giving the British fans and the visitors to London the opportunity to experience a Riyadh Season event just a matter of weeks before we officially launch the 2024 Season in Riyadh in October.”

Said Frank Warren, Chairman of Queensberry Promotions (the leading boxing promoter in Europe), “The Riyadh Season lands in London with the most spectacular and gripping event ever to be witnessed in the United Kingdom. On September 21st, the British fight fans and the fans tuning in across the world will be treated to a British version of the quality of shows that are now a hallmark of Riyadh headlined by what promises to be a breathtaking clash of the big hitters between the new IBF Interim World Champion Daniel Dubois and the former unified Champion Anthony Joshua. The undercard is simply unprecedented with Willy Hutchinson being rewarded for his magnificent display on the 5vs5 with a shot at the WBO Interim light heavyweight title against fellow British contender Joshua Buatsi in what is a huge opportunity for both fighters. Hamzah Sheeraz going up against European title holder Tyler Denny following Hamzah’s exploits in Riyadh last time out is another fight I can’t wait to watch. Anthony Cacace defending his super featherweight world titles against the former featherweight world champion Josh Warrington promises to be all-out warfare. Liam Smith taking on Josh Kelly will be a classic confrontation at super welterweight and a clash between the old guard and the new.”

Commented Eddie Hearn, Chairman of Matchroom Boxing (the world’s leading boxing promoter), “AJ is back at the National Stadium on what will be a blockbuster event. The Riyadh Season comes to London and we are confident that this will be a historic night full of opportunity for the fighters and drama for fans around the world.”

‘gea.gov.sa’ further stated that this London fight night represents the second Riyadh Season Card to be staged outside of Saudi Arabia with the first taking place overseas in Los Angeles (US) on August 3rd.
