Romania stadium

Bucharest has confirmed plans to reconstruct three major stadiums before Euro 2020. A quick glance on the three projects:

Rapid stadium: Rapid Bucharest’s Giulesti will be completely rebuilt as a football-specific stadium for 18,000 people.

Dinamo stadium: Elisabeta Lupa, the former president of Dinamo Bucuresti, recently took charge as the Minister of Sports and Youth. This immediately resulted in Lupa’s approval of the Dinamo stadium plan. 30,000 seats under a roof and football-only layout with no more running track are the plan in this case.

Steaua’s stadium: Third and possibly largest project awaiting investment is the home of Steaua. But the phrase ‘Home of Steaua’ is very sensitive currently. Romania’s most famous club is in conflict with the Ministry of Defence, who own the stadium. The team doesn’t play home games there and may in fact relocate even permanently. This would make the €20-million investment a waste, though it’s clear that Stadionul Ghancea is in dire need of improvements if further use is to be secured.

Overall the projects are expected to consume around €100 million.

Construction on a forth stadium will start within this year. The second league team of Arad will get a new venue.
Therefore six new stadium projects have been announced or construction has started already in Romania. The Targu Jiu stadium and the stadium in Craiova are already on their way.

Updates on all the projects will be provided at Coliseum Summit EUROPE, 15/16 March in Amsterdam. For more information please watch out #coliseumsummit on twitter or www.coliseum-online.com
