Sacramento Kings and block chain technology Image: Sacramento Kings and Golden 1 Center

The American professional basketball team Sacramento Kings is all set to launch the league’s first block chain-based rewards program. It will be available for fans just before the NBA home game introduction on October 25.

The Sacramento Kings have joined hands with Blockparty to come up with a bonus program which would reward fans for visiting the home ground of the California-based basketball team – Golden 1 Center. The program is set to launch the new NBA season, starting on October 16.

Blockparty is a Blockchain-based live event ticketing and fan engagement company who creates turnkey hospitality and tailgate experiences for supporters.

As part of the agreement, Blockparty is planning to use Blockchain technology to keep a tab on the loyalty factor of Sacramento Kings fans. When fans visit the venue, these points will be received in a virtual wallet which will be integrated with the Sacramento Kings + Golden 1 Center app.

Fans can take part in the bonus program free. The rewards carry no financial value and are non-transferable. The awards can be redeemed for prizes and unique events such as signed merchandise and tickets.

The basketball team explains that teaming up with Blockparty is the first of its kind in professional sports and will help them get closer to fans. The franchise is also looking to apply the Blockchain technology in a big way at the Golden 1 Center Arena.

“We’ve just begun to realize the benefits of Blockchain technology by changing the way we conduct business globally and ensuring secure transactions across multiple sectors and customers,” said Sacramento Kings Chairman, CEO and Governor Vivek Ranadivé.

“We strive to continue delivering the best fan experience and are excited to bring this transformative technology to life to reward our loyal fans with experience in a safe and transparent manner,” he further stated.

The Kings are known for adopting novel concepts. In 2014, the NBA franchise was the first team to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment in the arena.
