After a successful Federation Internationale de Basketball Amateur (FIBA) 3×3 Asia Cup 2022, the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup will take place in Singapore for the next three editions (2023, 2024 and 2025).

‘FIBA 3×3’ stated that just two months removed from the 2022 edition, which featured a record 51 teams from 29 different countries, Sport Singapore and FIBA announced that Singapore will continue to host the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup for the next three years.

Mies (Switzerland)-based the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is an association of national organizations which governs the sport of basketball worldwide. Originally known as the Fédération internationale de basket-ball amateur, in 1989 it dropped the word amateur from its name but retained the acronym.

The FIBA Asia 3×3 Cup is the top basketball tournament in Asia for 3×3 national teams and was first held in 2013 as the FIBA Asia 3×3 Championship in Doha, Qatar. In the championship there are two events, men’s and women’s. Each team has four players.

Singapore-based Sport Singapore is a statutory board under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth of the Government of Singapore. It is the lead agency tasked with developing a holistic sports culture for the nation.

Asserted Andreas Zagklis, FIBA Secretary General, “After such an exciting return to Singapore this year, we couldn’t be happier to establish the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup in the country long term. This will allow us to build an even greater and more engaged community of fans in Singapore and solidify the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup as one of the highlights of the 3×3 season.”

The next edition will be staged in the Singapore Sports Hub from March 27th to April 2nd, marking the first major milestone of the 3×3 season in 2023. In addition to the competition, fans can look forward to community activations organized in conjunction with the event happening across the Sports Hub precinct.

The Singapore Sports Hub is a sports and recreation district in Kallang, Singapore. The Sports Hub is a 35-hectare public-private partnership that is anchored by the new National Stadium and the existing Singapore Indoor Stadium, and also incorporates a new aquatics facility, indoor sports hall, water sports center, public sports facilities, and retail.

Maintained Marcus Tan, Chief, Sport Development Group, “Sport Singapore is excited to build on the success of the 2022 edition for the next three years, and we are committed to growing the local and regional interest in 3×3 together with FIBA. This event at the Sports Hub next year promises to be a pulsating live and digital spectator experience. Watch out for it!”

China’s women and Australia’s men won the fifth edition of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup on July 10th, 2022. The winners of the 2023 edition will earn a ticket to one of the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments for Paris 2024.

Over the five-day competition, the event attracted more than 4,000 spectators with an estimated digital outreach of 35 million.

Exciting, urban and innovative, 3×3 is inspired by several forms of streetball played worldwide and is considered the world’s number one urban team sport. Steered by FIBA, games see two teams of three players’ faceoff on a basketball half-court.

‘FIBA 3×3’ further stated that it was played successfully for the first time in international competition at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and since then has benefited from the launch of a yearly professional circuit for men and women (World Tour and Women’s Series, respectively) and national team competitions.

3×3 made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

FIBA 3×3 events are played on Enlio floors with Wilson balls, Schelde backstops, Bodet shot-clocks and the Magic Sky canopy system.
