Spectrum Center’s renovation completed Image: Charlotte Hornets and NBA

On October 21st, the Spectrum Center (Charlotte, North Carolina, US) officially celebrated its grand reopening fittingly on the same date that it originally opened 20 years ago. Several local leaders attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the arena’s Trade Street Entrance.

‘NBA’ quoted Vi Lyles, Charlotte Mayor, as stating, “The 20th Anniversary is a milestone that reflects the evolution of the Spectrum Center and the growth of our City. This building has been the backdrop for unforgettable concerts, Championship games, community celebrations, and personal memories that most of us have had. One of the things I’ll never forget is sitting next to the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver when we hosted the NBA All-Star Weekend in 2019. This moment today is part joy, part community-centered and is part of what makes Charlotte so special.”

The 17,500-capacity Spectrum Center is an indoor arena in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. Located in Uptown it is owned by the City of Charlotte and operated by its main tenant, the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

New York (US)-based the National Basketball Association (NBA) is a professional basketball league in North America composed of 30 teams. The NBA is one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada and is considered the premier professional basketball league in the world.

Remarked Rick Schnall, Hornets Co-Chairman, “Our whole organization is thrilled to be here today. Today, we officially reopen and celebrate 20 years of unforgettable moments in the heart of Uptown. As many have heard us say we have a very clear vision for our franchise and arena. It’s to be the premier franchise in the NBA and a premier concert and sports venue, one that we can be proud of for all the Carolinas and that’s on par with other great arenas around the United States. We have to have premier facilities and we’re starting that here. We’re so proud of what we’ve created.”

‘NBA’ further quoted Steve Bagwell, Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority head honcho, as stating, “Today (October 21st) is more than about the next chapter of the arena. It’s about what can happen when great partners come together with a shared vision of our City’s future. The collaboration amongst Hornets Sports and Entertainment, the city of Charlotte and the CRVA is a powerful example of what partnership looks like when it truly works. Together, we share one purpose – to strength Charlotte through experiences that connect people and create opportunity. The Spectrum Center is not only a place where incredible events happen. It’s an anchor for Uptown, a driving force for the Carolinas’ sports and entertainment landscape.”

Charlotte (US)-based the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority (CRVA) works to deliver experiences that uniquely enrich the lives of its visitors and the residents. Through leadership in destination development, marketing and venue management expertise the CRVA leads efforts to maximize the region’s economic potential through visitor spending, creating jobs and opportunities for the community.

The Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE) is the company that owns and operates the National Basketball Association team the Charlotte Hornets.
