Saudi Arabia to offer Supercoppa Image: MJR Group Ltd./Coliseum

The way that the Supercoppa Italiana (Italy) is contested could be set for a radical change as a big offer has come from Saudi Arabia, a report claims.

‘sempremilan’ stated that the date and location for the next Supercoppa between the top-flight clubs A.C. Milan and Inter Milan has already been announced as the game will take place on January 18th, 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The exact kickoff time will be released later.

The Supercoppa Italiana is an annual football match contested by the winners of the Serie A and the Coppa Italia in the previous season.

The Coppa Italia is an annual football cup competition established in Italy in 1922. The competition is open to all Serie A and Serie B clubs, as well as four teams of Serie C.

The Serie A, also called Serie A TIM for national sponsorship reasons, is a professional league competition for football clubs located at the top of the Italian football league system and the winner is awarded the Scudetto and the Coppa Campioni d’Italia.

A.C. Milan or simply Milan is a professional football club in Milan, Italy, founded in 1899. The club has spent its entire history, with the exception of the 1980-1981 and 1982-1983 seasons, in the top flight of Italian football, known as Serie A since 1929-1930.

The Inter Milan is an Italian professional football club based in Milan, Lombardy, Italy. Inter is the only Italian side to have always competed in the top flight of Italian football since its debut in 1909.

Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, commonly known as San Siro, is a football stadium in the San Siro district of Milan, Italy, which is the home of A.C. Milan and Inter Milan. It has a seating capacity of 80,018, making it one of the largest stadiums in Europe, and the largest in Italy.

After the past season when the ‘Rossoneri’ won the league title, the rivalry between the two sides is certainly heated, and it is of course expected that the two Milanese clubs will again fiercely battle for the Scudetto.

‘sempremilan’ further stated that the Supercoppa could soon undergo significant changes. Saudi Arabia has decided to present an offer of €138m to Serie A to keep their agreement on hosting it.

The improvement idea is mainly the result of what should be the new format of the tournament with four teams, along the lines of the one organized in Spain. The top two in Serie A and the two finalists of the Coppa Italia would participate with the other teams to fill in if there is overlap.

They pitch that the agreement would apply for the coming six years, therefore until the 2028-2029 seasons.
