The newly-promoted Italian Serie A football club U.S. Salernitana 1919 (Italy) is gearing up to repurpose its residence – Stadio Arechi – so that their home ground conform to the standards required for the top flight.

‘Otto Pagine’ stated that the Municipality of Salerno (Italy) has presented plans that will see the capacity of the venue rise from 26,000 to 31,500.

U.S. Salernitana 1919 is an Italian football club based in Salerno, Campania (Italy). Salernitana returned to Serie A in 2021, after a break of 23 seasons, having finished second in Serie B.

The 26,000-capacity Stadio Arechi is a multipurpose stadium in Salerno, Italy. It is presently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of U.S. Salernitana 1919.

‘Otto Pagine’ further stated that the refurbishment work will also include an overhaul of the facility’s lighting system which presently is not in concert with Serie A standards. In lieu of the present lights, the LED lights will be installed. Moreover, the venue will also be redecorated to meet Serie A standards.

Serie A is a professional league competition for football clubs located at the top of the Italian football league system.

Once the reshape work of the venue is over, it will brighten the chances of Stadio Arechi playing host to Italian national team fixtures in the future. The upgrades, which will also include new changing rooms and a revamped press room, are set to be completed by the middle of August this year just in time for the first round of the Coppa Italia (Italian football annual cup competition).

Stadio Arechi first opened its doors in the year 1990 and the last time upgrade work was done on the arena was in the year 1998.

Apart from restructuring its jigs, Salernitana also requires new owners. The club is presently being owned by the Italian entrepreneur Claudio Lotito, who also owns rival Serie A team SS Lazio.

League rules bar individuals from having shares in more than one club and Salernitana owner Lotito also owns Lazio. Salernitana said in a statement recently that it has entrusted industry professionals with the task of managing the sale of company shares.

Next season (2021-2022 to start from August 22nd, 2021 to May 22nd, 2022) will mark Salernitana’s return to Serie A following a 23-year absence.
