‘The Silver State’ to shine in new arena

Work on the new Henderson arena in Nevada, US, has begun. It will be the future home of the ice hockey team Henderson Silver Knights (AHL). The facility is coming up in the Las Vegas suburb.

Henderson Event Center is the tentative name of a planned multipurpose 6,000-seat indoor arena to be built in Henderson, Nevada. It would be constructed on the site of the former Henderson Pavilion and is to be owned by the City of Henderson with Vegas Golden Knights as the arena operator.

The Henderson Silver Knights are a professional ice hockey team based in Henderson, Nevada, that will begin play in the 2020-21 American Hockey League (AHL) season. The team will be an owned-and-operated affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas Golden Knights is an American professional ice hockey team based in the Las Vegas area that plays in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).

‘ArenaDigest’ reported that the new arena will come up at the Henderson Pavilion site at Green Valley and Paseo Verde parkways in Henderson. The development starts with razing down the Henderson Pavilion. It was in poor shape before a decision was taken to put the new Henderson Event Center at its site, with its outdoor roof dilapidated and other issues identified by City officials.

The new $84 million facility, the tab of which has been picked up equally by the Golden Knights and the City, is expected to open in the 2022-23 seasons as home to the Silver Knights. The lead architect is Klai Juba Wald Architecture and Interiors, with Perkins+Will as a support specialty architect. Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. is the lead designer and builder.

‘ArenaDigest’ further reported that the Henderson Event Center will fit in 6,019 spectators and will be used for a variety of events, including concerts by the Henderson Symphony Orchestra and high-school events like graduations.

The Henderson Symphony Orchestra’s (HSO) mission is to promote classical music appreciation to a diverse audience, through performance, educational outreach, and artistic collaborations.

The Golden Knights purchased the ice hockey team San Antonio Rampage earlier this year for a 2020-21 AHL season move. The team will play at Orleans Arena in Paradise, US, until the new Henderson arena is completed. It is expected that the new arena will become the most popular venue in the AHL: The Golden Knights ownership says it has received over 7,000 deposits for full- and partial-season tickets.

‘ArenaDigest’ added that the City has teamed up with the Vegas Golden Knights on a new two-sheet facility, Lifeguard Arena, which will be the practice home of the Silver Knights as well as the team headquarters. The Henderson facility will provide the Golden Knights a platform to make its presence felt throughout Vegas: The team’s practice facility is in Summerlin, on the West side of the Metro area, and stages a variety of events in addition to team practices. The Golden Knights play games at T-Mobile Arena, just off the Strip.
