Bogota El Campín Stadium plans Image: El Campín Stadium Cultural and Sports Complex

The public-private alliance – El Campín Stadium Cultural and Sports Complex (CDEC SAS) (Colombia) – has come out with details of the project that will facilitate the transformation of the El Campín area, bringing a 360 degree change to this important area of Bogotá and modifying it into an avant-garde sports and cultural complex.

The Estadio Nemesio Camacho El Campín, commonly known as El Campín, is the main stadium of Bogotá, Colombia. It was inaugurated on August 10th, 1938 and has a current capacity of 36,343 spectators. It is the home ground of the Categoría Primera A teams Millonarios F.C. and Santa Fe.

The ‘Today.in-24’ stated that the remodeling of the Nemesio Camacho El Campín Stadium will allow it to be modernized and brought into line with world-class standards, while expanding its capacity to hold 45,000 spectators. The stadium will have a retractable roof, two floors of boxes, expansion of the stands, among others.

The Categoría Primera A, commonly referred to as Liga BetPlay Dimayor due to sponsorship by online betting company BetPlay, is a Colombian professional league for association football clubs. It is the country’s premier football tournament and sits at the top of the Colombian football league system.

The Millonarios Fútbol Club is a professional Colombian football team based in Bogotá, which currently plays in the Categoría Primera A. They play their home games at the El Campín Stadium.

Santa Fe is a Colombian professional football team based in Bogotá, which currently plays in the Categoría Primera A. They play their home games at the El Campín Stadium.

The ‘Today.in-24’ further stated that according to Edgar Cardona, Director of the structuring team of the project, it would be a purely private initiative and the private partner will carry out the design, financing, construction, operation, maintenance, administration, and economic boost of the complex for a term of 30 years, and then revert it to the district.

Observed Cardona, “This is a scheme that allows Bogotá to bring to fruition a huge project without taking a single penny from the taxpayers, and additionally it will give a shot in the arm to the economic scenario of Bogotá, generating about 1,500 jobs during the construction stage and circa 4,500 jobs once the stadium open its gates. Additionally, the City will boast an infrastructure the price tag of which will be more than 280 million dollars, which in 30 years, taking into account its appreciation, is estimated to correspond to 500 million dollars.”

The project envisages building parks with multiple green areas, squares, playgrounds, and a 1.8-kilometer bike path.

Added Cardona, “What we propose is a space where recreation, culture, entertainment, and sports will get an appropriate platform. An ecosystem, campus, park and modern architecture, innovative services and spaces for the whole family and tourists, is in the heart of this project.

The alliance is made up of a group of top-notch companies boasting vast experience and has carved a niche for themselves in the fields of engineering, construction, architecture, event production, among others.
 

Sustainability counts

The project will also give impetus on sustainability and creating astonishing amount of green areas.
 

Sencia features

The project seeks to renew an area of 167 thousand square meters and turn it into an ecosystem of entertainment, sports, culture, creativity, and a complex Sencia will come up which will comprise eight service areas:

  • Parking: The stadium will boast parking areas for 1,300 vehicles, 700 motorcycles, 600 bicycles, and charging areas for electric vehicles;
  • Foolproof security: The stadium security will be tightened keeping in mind the safety quotient of the spectators;
  • Auditorium: The construction of an auditorium for 2,500 people, which will also serve as the home of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra;
  • Sports service unit: A physical conditioning center of more than 16,000 m2, Olympic-size swimming pools, gym, fields for practicing soccer, and skating. It will also enjoy an area for ‘coworking’;
  • Creative service unit: An area of 26,000 m2 will comprise events pavilion, the first esport gym for gamers and a supermarket;
  • Restaurants service unit: Several eateries will come up in a huge area;
  • Entertainment service unit: This space will boast commercial spaces, bowling alley, trampoline area, a wind tunnel for simulating free fall, and cinemas;
  • Entrepreneurship service unit: A hotel with approximately 120 rooms, offices and commercial spaces, exhibition areas for art, sculpture, crafts, photography among other artistic pursuits;
  • Health services unit: Emergency Medical Care Service of the Bogotá Red Cross will be housed in the stadium to tackle medical emergencies;
  • Space for gastronomes: 4,600 m2 of space for foodies who will be spoilt for choice with the best of spread; and
  • Rest areas: More than 44,000 square meters of area devoted to parks where people can soothe their frayed nerves and put their hair down.
