LICAMPA 1617 – the undertaking which is the brainchild of leading Spanish figure Juan Roig – has created a legacy project for the city of Valencia in Spain.

HOK – the award-winning sports architecture firm – and ERRE – the design firm of Spain focused on creating residential and institutional spaces – has designed the Valencia Arena. The facility is all set to become a multifunctional venue for music, arts, culture and sporting events.

The construction work is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2020 and is set to be completed in 2023.

The new arena will be a kind of cherry on the cake for the city which already boasts eye-catching architecture. Valencia Arena will comprise 1,200m2 multipurpose rooms, a car parking area which can hold up to 1,300 vehicles (both underground and multi-story) and will be the new and future headquarters of both the men and women’s Valencia Basket Club.

The neighborhood will come to life with the setting up of complimentary buildings such as a 20,000 m2 public park creating verdant space, and new build facilities for local school ‘Les Arts’.

The project is giving highest priority to fans and will support large basketball events, including Liga Endesa and NBA games. Additional traditional facilities and a museum will also come up in the facility.

The arena’s seating capacity will be 15,600 or 18,600 standing. Visitors will be able to savor a wide range of premium hospitality products and a seating bowl designed to create an experience to be cherished forever.

The pliable design of the venue will allow it to attract various entertainment events like music, the arts, and culture and sports initiatives.

John Rhodes, Director of Sports and Entertainment at HOK’s London Studio, remarked, “The exciting design for Valencia Arena is a tribute to the ambitions of LICAMPA 1617 and HOK is delighted to have partnered ERRE in realising this aspiration. The venue is a breath-taking blend of multifunctionality, comfort, security, atmosphere and sustainability. We are confident that we are designing a world-class sports and entertainment destination that will be a valuable asset for the local economy, as well as a nationwide attraction.”

He further remarked, “We are delighted to be working with ERRE on this important project with an ambitious client. Although it is early in the process, our vision is to create a sustainable home for Valencia Basket that will become a world-class sports and entertainment destination. It will be a valuable asset for the local economy, attracting visitors from across the region and creating a wonderful gateway building to the city.”

Amparo Roig, co-founder of ERRE Arquitectura, added, “We are delighted to accomplish this project together with HOK, a very professional team of architects, and being part of making our city Valencia more remarkable.”

Jose Martí, who is also a co-founder of ERRE Arquitectura, shared, “Working on this project is a dream come true for our studio. As architects, we are very pleased to work side by side with HOK, learning from their amazing experience and savoir-faire. As citizens of Valencia, we are excited to be part of a project that will change the projection of our city to the world.”

It is expected that Valencia Arena will generate 300-plus jobs and bring about €10m per year for the local economy.
