The new Sport Arena Wien in Vienna (Austria) with three multifunctional sports halls is being built in its 2nd district – Leopoldstadt. The project details were presented recently and the halls’ price tag is estimated at 50 million euros.

‘Stadt Wien’ stated that the new Sport Arena Wien building comprises three halls at different levels. The halls can be used independently of each other and offer a balanced mix between training and event venues.

At the heart of the project lies a multifunctional sports hall with a focus on ball sports (hand, volleyball and basketball as well as hockey and badminton). The multiuse sports hall can also double up as an event or training hall. Around 3,000 seats can be extended or retracted as per requirement.

‘Stadt Wien’ further stated that a rooftop training hall is also being planned. The third hall will boast facilities for fitness freaks and it will also house a cardio and strength training area. The modular training halls will be able to adapt to the respective sport. The training and event halls will meet the criteria of international as well as national sports federations.

The foyer area will enjoy a restaurant, cloakrooms, cash desk, and restroom facilities.

High on sustainability

The building will meet the most modern criteria for sustainability and is being designed as a highly insulated energy-saving structure. It will run on renewable energy.

The environment-friendly halls will come up in lieu of the aging Dusika Stadium.

The Ferry-Dusika-Hallenstadion is an indoor arena in Vienna, Austria. It was built in 1976, holds 7,700 spectators and hosts indoor sporting events such as track cycling, tennis and athletics. It hosts an annual indoor track and field event – the Vienna Indoor Classic.
