Planning permission approved for major redevelopment of AFC Bournemouth stadium Image: AFC Bournemouth

English Premier League club AFC Bournemouth has submitted a formal planning application for redevelopment of its Vitality Stadium.

AFC Bournemouth said that following the approval of the stadium enabling works, the latest application is for a purpose-built stadium designed to support the club’s long-term growth, deliver an enhanced matchday experience, and bring significant community benefits to the local area.

The proposed redevelopment represents a major milestone in the club’s ongoing commitment to building a sustainable future on and off the pitch.

Designed with modern facilities, improved accessibility, and expanded capacity, the project aims to create a vibrant, long-term home for supporters while contributing to the wider regeneration of the surrounding area.

The planning application includes license for a new 7,000-seater South Stand, the infill of all four stadium corners to generate additional capacity, the relocation of existing floodlights, plus the optimisation of the car park and cycling layout.

In addition, there will be a new ticket office, fan zone and outside broadcasting compound, all of which will enhance the matchday experience for those on site.

The stadium will grow to a total capacity of over 20,000, nearly doubling the current size to align with Premier League standards.

AFC Bournemouth is a professional association football club based in Kings Park, Boscombe, a suburb of Bournemouth, Dorset, England (UK). The club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.

Dean Court, currently known as the Vitality Stadium for sponsorship purposes, is a football stadium in Boscombe, a suburb of Bournemouth, Dorset, England (UK) and is the home ground of the AFC Bournemouth. The stadium has a capacity to accommodate 11,307 supporters.

AFC Bournemouth said it has engaged with supporters, local residents, and stakeholders throughout the development process.

The club will continue its open dialogue as the planning application progresses, ensuring that transparency and collaboration remain central to the project.

The submission of the planning application marks the beginning of the formal approval process, with timelines subject to planning authority review.

AFC Bournemouth earlier announced that planning permission has been granted for the enabling works at Vitality Stadium, marking an important milestone in the club’s long-term vision for redevelopment and future expansion.

The approved works will deliver significant improvements to the stadium’s infrastructure and matchday experience.

These include the installation of a new perimeter fence and turnstiles, revisions to pedestrian and cycle routes, the creation of a new outside broadcast area, and the enclosure of terraces within the West Stand.

Together, these developments will enhance safety, accessibility, and operational efficiency, while laying the groundwork for future phases of the club’s ambitious redevelopment plans.

Bill Foley, owner of AFC Bournemouth, said: “This is an exciting and important moment for the club. Our proposed new stadium reflects not only our ambition on the pitch, but also our commitment to investing in the community. The project will deliver long-term benefits for supporters, local residents, and the wider region beyond the BCP area.”
