New Zealand’s Sky Stadium will be renamed Hnry Stadium as part of a new five-year naming rights deal.

The New Zealand Herald said the 34,500-capacity multipurpose venue will now be named after one of New Zealand’s largest accounting services in a five-year partnership with the venue’s owners, the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust.

The move follows broadcaster Sky’s decision not to extend its contract with the venue, which is commonly called The Cake Tin.

It was renamed to Sky Stadium in 2020 from its original name of Westpac Stadium (2000-2020).

The 34,500-capacity Sky Stadium is a major sporting venue in Wellington, New Zealand. The stadium’s bowl site size is 48,000 m². The stadium was built in 1999 by Fletcher Construction and is situated close to the major transport facilities one kilometer North of the central business district (CBD).

Sky Stadium regularly serves as a home venue for All Blacks rugby matches and is also the home venue for A-League team Wellington Phoenix FC.

James Fuller, Hnry co-founder and CEO, said, “Hnry is a Wellington-born business, and through the city’s unwavering support, we’ve been able to grow from a local start-up to now operating in three countries.

“Wellington has remained central to who we are throughout the journey, and this partnership signifies our long-term commitment to the city, economy and community.

“We love this city, and we genuinely believe in its future. Taking on the naming rights for Hnry Stadium is our way of backing Wellington and contributing to something that brings people from all walks of life together as the city grows and evolves.”

Fuller said the venue would be known as Hnry Stadium for the first time for the Wellington Phoenix men’s A-League match against Sydney on March 1, 2026.

Also a major sports venue and home to rugby, cricket, and football teams, the venue is a frequent host to major concerts. Most recently, Ed Sheeran brought his Loop Tour to the venue on 21 January.

In recent years, the venue has also hosted the likes of Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, Six60, and Queen & Adam Lambert.

Warrick Dent, CEO of Wellington Regional Stadium Trust, said, “Having a Wellington-born-and-bred business as our naming rights sponsor aligns very well with our strategic purpose of ‘providing unforgettable experiences that connect our communities.

“Given how that parallels Hnry’s own goals, we see this partnership becoming incredibly successful.

“In the past 25 years, we have welcomed more than 12 million patrons through our gates. That level of support reflects the role the Stadium plays in Wellington’s cultural, sporting and community life.

“We work hard to consistently deliver experiences that bring people together, and we look forward to the next era working with Hnry to amplify our business even further.”
