Work has finally begun on a long-awaited entertainment arena in Bristol (UK) which could open in early 2027.

‘bristol247.com’ stated that site preparation and enabling work is underway to transform the former Brabazon Hangars into YTL Arena Bristol, a live entertainment and cultural hub for the South West.

‘YTL Arena Bristol’ stated that the historic site (Brabazon Hangars) was once a vital part of Britain’s aviation past.

The YTL Arena Bristol is a proposed 19,000-capacity indoor arena to be located at the former Filton Airfield’s Brabazon Hangars. The original plans were for the arena to be built next to the Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station in Bristol, England (UK), and were expected to be completed in 2020.

‘YTL Arena Bristol’ further stated that the initial phase of the project began with decontamination of the site carried out by the Omega Environmental Services. This will be followed by demolition of non-essential structures before starting the main construction program.

Shillington (UK)-based the Omega Environmental Services Limited has established itself as a leading asbestos removal and remediation contractor in the United Kingdom. The company’s ethos then, as it is today, is one of unrivaled quality of service and client satisfaction.

The YTL Construction UK, a new company that will be part of the international YTL Group, will be responsible for transforming the historic Brabazon Hangars into the premier music venue for Bristol and the South West, and the fourth largest indoor arena in the United Kingdom. With over 60 years of experience delivering complex and innovative projects across diverse sectors, including rail, infrastructure, performing arts centers and iconic high-rise developments, the new company will be building on the success of the group model based in Malaysia.

Observed Andrew Billingham, head honcho of YTL Arena Bristol, “We’re pleased with the progress and are pushing forward, albeit slower than originally planned. Handing over the Hangars to Omega represents a pivotal milestone. We have tackled challenges head-on making crucial decisions to expedite the opening while ensuring we deliver one of the premier arenas in Europe. Once the main construction starts, we estimate it being a two-and-a-half-year build program. It is well-documented that the construction companies are facing difficulties, and with the international experience the YTL Group has in construction and project management, it is a logical step for us to control the whole process through to operation.”

The YTL Arena’s vision extends far beyond a construction project. It encompasses a cultural and economic transformation for Bristol and the broader region. With a commitment to excellence, inclusivity and global prominence, this venture aspires to make Bristol a celebrated destination for live music and entertainment on the world stage.

Electric Arena

‘bristol247.com’ further stated that the 19,000-capacity arena will host entertainment events, exhibition space and conferencing facilities, as well as food and drink locations for the concert-goers.

Once complete, it will be the only indoor arena in the South West, and the fourth-largest venue in the United Kingdom.

The arena will be 100 percent electric, making it one of the first venues in the United Kingdom to operate without the use of fossil fuels.

The venue bosses say the arena will provide 500 jobs, increase overnight stays in the City of Bristol by more than 300,000 and boost the region’s tourism economy by £60m a year.

The arena forms part of larger plans for the Filton Airfield. The historic site was once home to the hurricane aircraft in World War II, birthplace of the Concorde and supersonic travel.

The 380 acres of the airfield will become home to hundreds of new homes, shops and businesses, and a new railway station connecting Brabazon to the Bristol Temple Meads (the oldest and largest railway station in Bristol, England, UK).
