The Oakland-based NBA team Golden State Warriors has received the city’s approval to install giant rooftop sign and mega-TV screen over the entrance of the team’s new Chase Center arena improving venue technology and fan experience.

“After some back and forth with the team’s neighbors at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, the San Francisco Commission on Community Investment and Infrastructure voted unanimously last week to approve the 68-by-38-foot “video board” that will hang over the arena’s Third Street entrance facing the public plaza,” The San Francisco Chronicle reported.

“We can use it for traffic and event updates, education, art — even things like movie nights in the plaza,” the Chronicle quoted Warriors spokesman P.J. Johnston as saying.

NBA contracts bar telecasting of games played inside the arena but the team might use the giant screen to air Warriors’ away games and other sporting events, hinted Johnston.

The deal, of course, also allows for advertising event sponsors, but that is limited to between two hours before and one hour after a game, concert or other show.

In addition, Warriors also got the green signal for putting up a lighted Chase Center sign measuring 176 feet by 200 feet across the arena’s rooftop. It won’t be visible from the street, but it will be clear as a bell for the blimp shot.

The Warriors also said that 8 out of 10 season-ticket holders at the team’s present home at Oracle Arena have bought seats in the new arena.
