China’s southern Guangdong Province has set forth a plan to have 8,577 various types of football pitches and spaces by 2020, according to a report by Yutang Sports.

“Guangdong Province has published an official document outlining their full plan regarding football pitch and facility construction and space arrangements in the province from 2017 to 2020,” the report said citing the General Administration of Sport of China as source.

Besides the 8,577 football pitches and spaces, the plan envisions the renovation of 2,924 existing football grounds and construction of 2,203 new grounds.

The newly built football grounds would include 811 for 5-a-side matches and 1,161 will be for 7- to 8-a-side matches. Only 231 full size grounds will be built under the plan, the report said. The average number of football pitches per 10,000 people will be 0.72.

Apart from the overall goals, the plan also arranges tasks for each city, the scale of construction, the infrastructure system and ensuring and servicing mechanics.

The plan was made by the Guangdong Sports Bureau in collaboration with the Provincial Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Department, Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Department of Education, Department of Finance and Department of Land Resources.

More details on the project is expected to be revealed at the forthcoming Coliseum Summit ASIA-PACIFIC, October 24-25, 2018, Beijing, China. Yutang Sports will be the official media partner for the event.
