A joint entry by NOW Architects in collaboration with international architecture, planning and design firm NBBJ and Samoo Architects and Engineers has won the venue design completion for Seoul’s Jamsil Sports Complex, architecture news website archdaily.com reported.

Earlier this spring the Korea National Urban Planning Association staged a competition for a new design of the Jamsil Sports Complex, which includes several sporting venues and buildings adjacent to the landmark Olympic Stadium within the complex, as well as almost 160,000 square meters of total area.

The stadium, however, will stand visibly intact in its original form, according to the report.

Built before the 1988 Summer Olympics, the Seoul Olympic Stadium in the Korean capital city’s Songpa district remains an active and treasured institution. Designed by Kim Swoo-geun, the stadium represents a significant moment in Korea’s modern history and remains a venue for large concerts and the home of Seoul E-Land FC.

The stadium was built for 1986 Seoul Asian Games and 1988 Seoul Summer Olympic from December 1976 to September 1984. This Complex is Korea’s largest integrated sports center, spanning an area of 402,816㎡. The complex consists of the Olympic Stadium, Auxiliary Stadium, Jamsil Arena, Jamsil Baseball Stadium, Jamsil Indoor Swimming Pool, Jamsil Inline Skating Rink and the Sports Park.

More details on the project will be revealed at the forthcoming Coliseum Summit ASIA-PACIFIC, October 24-25, 2018, Beijing, China.
