The much awaited Las Vegas Convention Center District’s (LVCCD) phase two expansion will begin soon after the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority (LVCVA) Board of Directors approved the $935 million Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) agreement in September, 2018, the LVCVA announced on its official website.

The expansion which is scheduled for a 2021 completion in time for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), was negotiated by LVCVA staff and the project’s construction manager-at-risk, Turner Martin-Harris.

The LVCC is a government building, which is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, is one of the largest convention centers in the world with currently 1,940,631 square feet of exhibit space and hosts shows with 200,000 participants. It is also the largest single-level convention center in the world.

The phase two expansion of the project which will add 1.4 million square feet of area to the existing convention center facility, including 600,000 square feet of new leasable exhibit space, will boast of spectacular design and the use of cutting-edge technology. It will also have modern meeting and work spaces. The LVCVA Board of Directors selected the Atlanta based firm tvsdesign to design the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The LVCVA staff, in partnership with Cordell Corporation, the agency’s contracted owner’s representative, developed a phased approach towards the expansion and renovation project to guarantee that no business is displaced during the execution of the project.

The expansion project is estimated to generate an additional $2.1 billion in economic activity and will have an annual incremental economic impact of $810 million. It will also attract more than 600,000 additional visitors each year.

The final and third phase will see the completion of the project, which is scheduled for 2023.
