HOK has hired two new recruits for its Sports, Recreation and Entertainment projects as the American firm expands its Dallas operations. Robert Burns has joined as Director of Business Development and Associate in Dallas and Andrew Elmer, PLA, ASLA, CLARB has joined as a Project Manager and Associate in Kansas City, HOK news reported.

Burns brings with him more than 10 years of experience in building and sustaining client relationships, leading market research and analysis, and managing project pursuits in the sports industry. He graduated from Missouri University of Science and Technology. He was a student-athlete with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of a growing practice that is committed to innovating in the collegiate and professional sports marketplace,” says Burns. “I’m inspired by the positive impact stadiums, ballparks, arenas and training facilities can have on communities and campuses across nation.”

Burns, who specialises in developing sports and entertainment projects for collegiate clients, joined HOK from HKS. He has experience in working with athletic foundations across the country to develop customized fund raising initiatives and donor engagement strategies for collegiate athletics.

Andrew Elmer has more than decade of experience in planning, landscape design and project management of intercollegiate athletic facilities around the nation, including University of Kansas and several others. Elmer is a landscape architect who is a former student-athlete from The Ohio State University which enables him to understand the challenges faced in planning by the universities.

“Today’s collegiate sports facilities play a vital role in building a campus culture by delivering great experiences for fans and athletes alike,” says Elmer, “I’m excited to use both my project management and campus planning experience to help HOK’s clients uncover new opportunities and synergies for sports projects in their campuses.”

Nate Appleman, Director of Sports, Recreation and Entertainment and Senior Principal said, “Adding Robert and Andrew to our team is an important step in continuing to expand our capabilities and reach to better serve our clients.”
