Spanish football club FC Barcelona recently announced that it will open the Johan Cruyff Stadium, located in the Sant Joan Despi sports complex, on August 27. A day before the inauguration, a statue dedicated to the former Barca player and coach, who lends his name to the stadium, will be erected, the club announced in a statement.

The new stadium is the first part of the new ‘Espai Barça’ (Barca space) project which will mean the redevelopment of the area around the Camp Nou as well as the Joan Gamper sports complex, on the outskirts of Barcelona.

The stadium will be opened at 7 pm with different activities around the new stadium and a match between the Under 19s of Barca and Ajax.

The club also said that Barca TV will broadcast in HD from their new studios (Barca Studios), which is more than 2,000 metre squared with a Virtual Reality set located in the town of Sant Just Desvern, near Barcelona.

The Barca foundation also turned 25 on July 18 and the board expressed their satisfaction at what it has achieved in defending the rights of youngsters through sport.
