The city council has given the nod to Stadio Olimpico authorities – the largest sports facility of Rome, Italy – to revamp the stadium keeping in mind UEFA Euro 2020. The stadium is one of the 12 co-hosts for the sporting extravaganza.

Virginia Raggi, Mayor of Rome, made this announcement in her Facebook post. Many European stadia had bid to be one of the chosen venues when UEFA announced in 2012 end that Euro 2020 games will be held in 12 different host cities across Europe. Among the 12 chosen venues, one was Stadio Olimpico.

Said Raggi, “Rome is preparing for the huge event of UEFA Euro 2020 and Stadio Olimpico is ready to redo its look. There will be more bathrooms, more places dedicated to people with disabilities and new restaurants.”

The renovation work will include the stadium press center and the facility restoration work will have to meet the criteria laid down by Euro 2020 as well as match international standards.

As part of the sporting gala, four matches will be held at Stadio Olimpico which includes the opening game. Raggi informed that the planned renovation will equip the stadium with state-of-the-art facilities.

The stadium will be ready to welcome fans from all over the globe with a totally refurbished look, but for the people of Rome, it will be their very own old stadium with a spruced-up look.
