The Athletics Department of the University of Delaware is readying a $60 million plan to make Delaware Stadium an avant-garde one. The university will contribute $ 25 million.

As part of the project, a new athletic center – Whitney Athletic Center – will be constructed. Renovation work of the stadium and construction work of the athletic center began at the end of the 2018 football season and will be completed by the summer of 2020.

As part of the makeover plan, the current west side seating will be demolished and, in its place, a new structure that includes chair back seats in sections C, D and E will be constructed. Behind the seating, a five-story athletic facility would come up.

The top floor of the athletic facility would comprise enhanced press box and coaches’ booths. It will also comprise a bar and, of course, food would be served to tickle supporters’ taste buds. The floor below would serve as a premium area that includes club seating as well as two luxury suites.

The health and wellness areas would be housed in the first floor including athletic training, sports medicine, nutrition, sports psychology and strength and conditioning, including a new weight room.

The second floor would be entirely devoted to “student success” – academic support, leadership development, career preparation and multipurpose space. Once the revamping work is over, the new capacity of the stadium will stand at 18,309 in 2020.
