Son Moix Stadium – Spanish LaLiga club RCD Mallorca’s home stadium – will be renamed ‘Visit Mallorca Estadi’ for Saturday’s home match against FC Barcelona in a bid to promote tourism.

Son Moix Stadium is a football stadium located in Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain, and serves as the residence of RCD Mallorca.

RCD Mallorca is a Spanish football club based in Palma, in the Balearic Islands. It presently plays in LaLiga. FC Barcelona is a Spanish professional football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

The club will grant ‘Visit Mallorca’ naming rights for the match to promote tourism as the Balearic Island looks to bounce back and come out of the shadow of COVID-19.

Media reports stated that the Hotel Federation of Mallorca and other tourism-related companies on the island will form part of the endeavor. It is still being worked out whether the initiative will continue for Real Mallorca’s remaining home matches this season.

LaLiga will return to action on Thursday with the derby match between Sevilla and Real Betis.

LaLiga is the men’s top professional football division of the Spanish football league system.

Minerva Santana, Director of Innovation, La Liga, Spain, will be one of the Speakers at the Coliseum Summit EUROPE to be held at Ascot Racecourse in UK on September 2-3, 2020.

RCD Mallorca wants to become one of the levers to revive tourism on the Balearic Island. The Vermilion club will give up their stadium naming for free in the first game of the LaLiga restart against FC Barcelona. The field will be called Visit Mallorca Estadi as tourism makes up for a major chunk – more than a third of the Balearic Islands Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Explained the Balearic Island Tourism and Sports Minister, Andreu Serra, “There will be a meeting with the club and various companies to outline the conditions.”

The things to be taken into consideration are the cost of the campaign, because although Mallorca has promised not to receive income from naming, it would entail infrastructure costs that should be borne by the administration or companies.

The Hotel Federation of Mallorca and other companies related to tourism on the island will spearhead the initiative, but it is still to be finalized if this arrangement will continue in the other five league days that the club will play in Son Moix.

The club, which was undergoing a commercial transformation of its stadium pre-COVID-19 outbreak, had already managed to sell the naming of spaces such as the ticket office, the player area of the sports city or the press area to some of the companies that will participate in the meeting, such as Ok Cars or IC Serveis.

Mallorca expected to close the 2019-2020 seasons with a net profit of 17.5 million euros but the COVID-19 outbreak upset their apple cart.
