Italy Pala Alpitour joins OVG Image: OVG

The latest venue to join the fold of Oak View Group’s (OVG) International Venue Alliance is the multiuse Pala Alpitour arena in the Italian City of Turin.

The American global advisory, development and investment company Oak View Group (OVG)’s International Venue Alliance is a network of independent entertainment and sports venues modeled on its US Arena and Stadium Alliance.

The Pala Alpitour is a multipurpose indoor arena that is located in the Santa Rita district of Turin, Italy. It sits few meters East of the Olympic Stadium. The arena has a seating capacity of 12,350 when it is configured for ice hockey, and it is the largest indoor sporting arena in Italy.

Run by American events promoter and venue operator Live Nation, from 2021 Pala Alpitour will become the new host of the ATP Finals tennis event, taking over from The O2 in London. It is the largest indoor sporting venue in Italy and will host the men’s tennis event – the Nitto ATP Finals from 2021 through 2025.

The Nitto ATP Finals is the second highest tier of annual men’s tennis tournaments after the four Grand Slam tournaments. A week-long event, the tennis spectacle is held annually each November at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom. In 2021, it will move to Turin, Italy.

The arena becomes the first from Italy to join OVG’s Venue Alliance and the fifth overall, joining UK-based Ascot Racecourse, Silverstone and NEC Group, as well as Germany-based D.Live.

Pala Alpitour will work in sync with OVG on finding new corporate partners for the arena and will help it to touch dizzying heights of success both in Italy and the world over. Pala Alpitour has also committed itself to implement an event supply chain with low carbon footprints, in keeping with Live Nation’s ‘Green Nation’ sustainability coalition.

Live Nation’s ‘Green Nation’ sustainability coalition is committing to new environmental goals for all Live Nation-owned and -operated venues, clubs, theaters and festivals, with the primary target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Sam Piccione III, OVG’s International President, observed, “Pala Alpitour is in the middle of a transformative phase and is set to become one of Europe’s most high-profile arenas with hosting the ATP Finals in 2021. We appreciate Roberto De Luca and Daniele Donati’s vision to join as the fifth member of the International Venue Alliance and look forward to working as an extension of their team and expanding the roster of like-minded partners.”

Daniele Donati, General Manager, Pala Alpitour, added, “We are focused on coming out of the pandemic in better shape than ever. Our aim is to maintain our established position as a leader in the Italian market and continuing to bring a platform for strategic and innovative partnerships. Through its international expertise, we believe OVG is the ideal partner to support us in achieving our goals.”

Pala Alpitour was originally built as an ice hockey venue for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin and has since graduated into a major concert venue, having hosted the likes of American singer-songwriter Madonna, Irish rock band U2, American singer Ariana Grande, Italian singer-songwriter Vasco Rossi and Italian singer Tiziano Ferro.

Pala Alpitour has struck a five-year deal to host the ATP Finals, which is the season-ending tournament on the men’s tennis calendar. The O2 has hosted the event since 2009.

OVG’s International Venue Alliance has taken a leaf out of the US-based company’s successful Arena and Stadium Alliance in North America, which comprises 28 arenas. The international alliance launched in September 2019 teaming up with Silverstone, before adding NEC Group, D.Live and Ascot into its fold later in the year. It is an invitation-only partnership of 28 arenas that allows efficiencies of scale through booking, buying and selling together.

Apart from the International Venue Alliance, OVG is undertaking its first European development with a new venue to come up in the Italian City of Milan. OVG partnered with Live Nation last year to build and operate the arena, which is slated to play a key role in the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games in the Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo region.

The 2026 Winter Paralympics, officially known as the XIV Paralympic Winter Games, is an international winter multisport event for disabled athletes that are scheduled to take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, from March 6th to 15th, 2026.

OVG is also spearheading the rehabilitation and operations of the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, UBS Arena in New York and Moody Center in Austin, Texas – all in the United States.

The operators of Pala Alpitour had their cash registers jingling – the venue averaged a gross of $421,693 and attendance of 6,185 over 38 events dating back 36 months but excluding the time since COVID-19 outbreak globally which is thwacking Italy once more.
