The stadium authorities at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome (Italy) are leaving nothing to chance as far as taking precautions against the dreaded coronavirus is concerned before the kickoff begins for the UEFA Euro 2020 on June 11th at the stadium with Turkey taking on past winners Italy.

Italy is one country which at one point of time received huge whiplash from the virulent virus leading to scores of deaths.

‘skytg24’ stated that Stadio Olimpico has been equipped with a tunnel fitted with thermal imaging cameras as part of the COVID-19 measures taken for the inaugural fixture. The tunnel sits between the first ticket verification and the security check area. As the fans pass by, the thermal cameras will detect body temperature. The measure is part of the safety plan developed by the Rome Police Headquarters in view of tomorrow’s match with fans in the stands.

Euro 2020 is scheduled to be the 16th UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Europe organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It will be held from June 11th to July 11th, 2021.

Fourteen thousand fans are expected for the opening match on June 11th between Italy and Turkey. After a meeting of the Committee for Order and Security recently in the prefecture, a technical meeting was held at the police station, chaired by the Rome Commissioner Mario Della Cioppa, to finetune the security measures. The gates will open from 6 pm. Strict COVID-19 protocols will be followed inside the stadium precinct and in the fan zones.

‘skytg24’ further stated that stringent coronavirus-related measures will also be taken up at dei Fori Imperiali (a road in the center of the City of Rome) where a maxi screen will be set up. Hawk eye will be kept on fans that have come from abroad. For areas in the immediate vicinity of Stadio Olimpico, from five hours before the kick-off and up to two hours after the end of the match, traffic closures will be resorted to as per the requirements.
