NFL to allow full house in 2021-2022 campaign

The National Football League (NFL) has always been a force to reckon with in the United States. The NFL still enjoys the same exalted position in the US. But it kind of got pushed to a corner for a while when COVID-19 attacked the country full throttle leading to more than half a million people losing their lives.

With the vaccination rollout program, the coronavirus scenario has improved considerably in the United States and the NFL is back with a bang.

‘Touchdown Wire’ stated that recently, the NFL team Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted that the team’s residence, Lucas Oil Stadium, will allow full capacity in 2021.

Following the Colts owner announcement, that means 32 of 32 dominos have fallen in the NFL. Every team in the league has approved full capacity stadia next season after last year it was almost a scenario of empty stands due to the COVID-19 pandemic which is still keeping the world on edge. Due to the very volatile virus situation in the world – especially in the United States – in 2020, NFL teams did not allow capacity crowd into venues. While few teams did allow limited in-person attendance, few teams played games sans spectators.

The NFL 2021-2022 seasons is starting on September 9th and will end on January 9^th, 2022.

The Indianapolis Colts are an American football team based in Indianapolis (US). The Colts compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference South division. Since the 2008 season, the Colts have played their games in Lucas Oil Stadium.

The 70,000-capacity Lucas Oil Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. It replaced the RCA Dome as the home field of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts and opened on August 16^th, 2008.

‘Touchdown Wire’ further stated that as of May 25^th, 2021, 30 of the NFL’s 32 teams had already given the go-ahead for packed venues. Only the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos were initially not open to the idea of full houses, but later, both the teams have decided to greet capacity crowd.

With every NFL team now allowing full capacity, that’s good news for fans, but also the salary cap. In 2020, the salary cap dipped to $182.5 million because of the loss of revenues.

The NFL and players’ union has already agreed to a “cap ceiling” in 2022, which has been set at $208.2M. That does not guarantee the salary cap will jump that high but allowing venue to be packed across the league is a step in that direction.
