Hawaii (US) State officials are putting a call out online for proposals for the real estate development of the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District (NASED) project.

The ‘KITV4’ stated that the request for proposals will be online for interested development partners.

The New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District (NASED) plan calls for a 35,000-seat stadium and is expected to cover 98 acres. It includes modernizing the space by building mixed-use developments, a rail station, hotels, retail centers, and more.

The NASED project will encompass the construction of a new stadium in addition to related ancillary development that will serve to create a New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District (NASED) on the grounds of the existing Aloha Stadium site in Hālawa (US).

The 50,000-capacity Aloha Stadium is a multipurpose stadium located in Hālawa, Hawaii, a western suburb of Honolulu. It is the largest stadium in the State of Hawaii (US). Aloha Stadium is home to the University of Hawaiʻi Rainbow Warriors football team.

A request for proposal is a document that solicits proposal, often made through a bidding process, by an agency or company interested in procurement of a commodity, service, or valuable asset, to potential suppliers to submit business proposals.

The ‘KITV4’ further stated that the NASED project spans 73 acres at the Hālawa site. That does not include an additional 25 acres planned for the construction of a new Aloha Stadium.

Officials say the request for proposals is a two-stage procurement process. The first phase includes requesting industry professionals in real estate development to provide their experience and qualifications with similar projects. The developers must also give a preliminary description of how they see the real estate portion complementing and supporting the new Aloha Stadium development, officials said.

A special committee will determine which teams are qualified to advance to the second phase of the process. That will eventually lead to the selection of a master developer for the project.

Public Works Administrator for the Department of Accounting and General Services Chris Kinimaka said in a press release, “We’re energized by reaching the RFP stage of the NASED Real Estate Project. Even though the pandemic caused delays, we stayed committed to finetuning the Real Estate RFP, so it aligns with the feedback we received from key stakeholders and members of the community. Now, we’re ready to move forward with this important milestone and identify our project development partners.”
