The Bundesliga club Hertha BSC (Germany) has been trying to build a home venue which it can call its own for several years now. But, despite its best efforts, everything seems to come to nought.

The ‘Berliner Morgenpost’ stated that the latest is that the Brandenburg stadium location is an issue again. The City authorities also put up stiff resistance. The whole question of the top-flight deciding to open the door of its new arena in 2025 is no longer possible.

Hertha BSC is a German professional football club based in the locality of Westend of the borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf of Berlin, Germany. It plays in Bundesliga, Germany’s primary football competition.

The 74,475-capacity Olympiastadion is a sports stadium at Olympiapark Berlin in Berlin, Germany. It was originally built by Werner March for the 1936 Summer Olympics. During the Olympics, the record attendance was thought to be over 100,000. Today the stadium is part of the Olympiapark Berlin. It serves as the residence of the Hertha BSC.

The ‘Berliner Morgenpost’ further stated that it was a long-cherished dream of Hertha BSC to inaugurate its new home – in the real sense of the term – on July 25th, 2025 to coincide with the 133rd anniversary of the club’s foundation. The new arena was supposed to come up next to the club’s present home ground. Since their present home is spread over huge swathes of land, building another venue is a feasible proposition. But now the Brandenburg location which surrounds the national capital and the City-State of Berlin has come under question again.

It is reported that high-rises are supposed to come up in the above area and though the Bundesliga team tried its level best to prevent such a move and even requested the powers that be, but the same has proved to be in vain.

Political parties like the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Left are of the opinion that Hertha BSC should build their home facility either at the Festplatz site or in and around the Tegel Airport. The club has opposed the plan tooth and nail as these sites are not well-connected to the City.

Nevertheless, all hope is not lost and the Bundesliga club is still hoping that its new residence will be off the ground in the year 2027 and it will very much sit on the Olympic Park site.
