Manica to spearhead Guardians home rejig work

The Major League Baseball (MLB) team Cleveland Guardians (US) announced on March 14^th that the national design firm Manica, in partnership with local architects Moody Nolan, Van Auken Akins and Robert P. Madison, Inc., will serve as design partners for their upcoming Progressive Field renovation projects.

The ‘MLB’ stated that Manica will serve as the Lead Design Architect on the projects, while the Ohio-based Moody Nolan (largest African-American architecture firm in the US) will serve as Architect of Record, Cleveland-based Van Auken Akins (largest female-owned architecture firm in Ohio) as Interiors Support Architect, and Cleveland-based Robert P. Madison, Inc. as Construction Support Architect.

The Cleveland Guardians are an American professional baseball team based in Cleveland, Ohio, US. The Guardians compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League Central division. Since 1994, they have played at Progressive Field.

The 35,041-capacity Progressive Field is a Major League Baseball stadium located in the downtown area of Cleveland, Ohio, United States. It is the home field of the Cleveland Guardians and, together with the 19,432-capacity Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, is part of the Gateway Sports and Entertainment Complex.

The ‘MLB’ further stated that the Guardians next will hire a construction management firm as the final piece before beginning the next stage of detailed planning for upcoming renovations and needed capital repairs. Team officials expect ballpark renovations at Progressive Field will occur over the next several years, with the work starting at the earliest after the 2022 season concludes. Those enhancements include transforming the left field experience inclusive of the Terrace Club, reimagining the upper deck concourse, creating a larger, more engaged social space in the seating area behind home plate, and clubhouse/front office building renovations work that helps advance Guardians mission of winning the World Series.

Through continued conversations with community leaders and industry experts, the Guardians and its management team will continue the ongoing process of achieving its community benefit goals for economic and workplace inclusion, career pathway support and community engagement, and will maintain a transparent communications plan to keep all stakeholders aware of progress.

The recently finalized lease agreement extends the Guardians occupancy of Progressive Field to at least 2036, with the potential for 10 additional years to 2046, building upon one of the longest successful partnerships between a team and the public in all of sports.

Upgrading the facility will extend the life of the building and ensure it remains a competitive economic asset for the City, County and the Guardians.
